-It's a petroleum liquid thats suppose to eat up carbon deposites in your motor. You can put it in your oil (not recommended for turbo cars) in your gas tank as an additive and thru your throttle body or vaccum line. It really is a difference you notice see and feel. Feels like I have more power, car runs smoother and idles better. Seafoam does everything the can says it does!Thesubielover wrote:What does sea foam accomplish?

I replaced the radiator, cleaned the interior & washed the exterior on the Impreza last Friday and did some electrical troubleshooting on the Legacy.

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
I cut a car in half over the weekend. It was fun. It was the Legacy SS donor for my project car. Sold the motor and trans as a half cut. The guy who bought it told me of his project plans, and showed me his project car. I've gotta say though, I'm kinda jealous and nostalgic for working on my old project car.
The donor car itself would never have been able to be road worthy anyway. It was smashed, slightly rolled and had the rear wheel almost ripped off. I bought it for parts only. The guy who bought it is swapping in into an Impreza, so it's going to a great cause.

It's kind of funny to think our cars are pretty much just sheet metal.....kind of scary too.

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
Yup. Only went through 6 or so sawzall blades to cut the whole thing apart. The A pillar, and the frame horns under the driver and passenger floor were the thickest. the frame horns looked like 2 layers of 1/8" steel. Sandwiched together with a mastic or something. Very gummy, and cutting through undercoating was gummy and slow too.
It was a cool weekend project.

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
Discovered the crank pully in the sedan is wobbling...

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
^^ Obviously check the tightness on the crank bolt. If it's loose, more than likely the back side of the pulley has been wallowed out by the woodruff key in the crank. If that key is still good, you can swap the pulley with any of the EJ motor crank pulleys. I had the same thing (I'm assuming) happen to my Impreza.

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
Tried to tighten the crank pully bolt today, no good. So I've parked the sedan, taken the light bar off, and swapped gauge clusters between the wagon and sedan but kept the speedo in the right car. I'm gonna miss buying regular gas and driving anywhere I wanted to. I'm planning on taking the pully off tomorrow to see how the back of it looks.

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
It'll look like barf, probably. You'll have to pull the pulley
and see if the key's eaten that slot. And if it hasn't I'd still
go behind the crank pulley and pull out that gear (I've always
called it a timing gear) behind it and see how the key looks.
If the woodruff key's screwed up go find one in a junk yard
and get the timing gear, crank pulley and woodruff key and
you shouldn't have any more problems with that. I've had
that problem on two Legacy's so far.

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
I bought a '98 Legacy wagon with 98k miles and a 2.2 and a bad crank pulley where the key was completely gone to nothing and the woodruff slot in the crank was wallowed out to maybe 3 times it's normal size. It wouldn't start since only the crank would turn, not the cams. I ended up putting everything back together and timing it right, then filling the completely worn out woodruff space with weld. It ran like a top and saved me from splitting the case and putting a new crank in. Probably good for 100,000+ miles that way, since the only thing you couldn't get to with the crank gear welded on was the oil pump and those rarely fail. You could still change the timing belt, even.
Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
Grinded, metal to metal filler, sanded, repeat...babys getting new paint next month! With only 115k miles on it...its was just too much to bear to watch the car eat itself with rust.
Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
Sputtered, misfired, died, and wouldn't start. Cam shaft positioning sensor seems to be going out. Another $200 into my baby.

Grabbed a hatch, fender and grill for the white wagon
Fumbling around inside a wagon in this heat trying to unlock it from the inside, is not cool. This happened at junkyard.
Hatch is on, not amazing, but its looking much better.
230 paint code ftw

Yup, on my 95 Impreza 1.8l. My symptom was it was throwing the belts off.SWRT wrote:Dominator: Whaaaat? Yours was that bad?
What I did to my car lately...
I drove nearly 400 miles one way to Palmer, Alaska (Alaska Raceway Park), to put the car on the drag strip to see how it did as stock. It was a test and tune night, and I wanted to get a timeslip for it. Not great by any means, but it sure was a lot of fun. After trying to learn a technique and get my reaction time dialed in I had my fastest lap on my last run.
15.965 @ 83.63mph
Reaction time: 0.031
Breaking into the 15's on the last run felt awesome.
I've got the timeslips, but haven't scanned them into the computer yet.

Also got this and a rebuild kit for my TD05 last week.
It's a stock small 16G, but it'll wake it up I'm sure!
