I was going to check my transmission fluid the other day and saw a hose that isn't hooked up to anything. I don't even see anything near by that it might attach to. It has probably been like this since we pulled the engine.
It has white residue in it.
Any ideas?

Hard to say but it could be one of the coolant lines that go to the throttle body

The automatics have a breather hose that doesn't connect to anything. Might be it?

This question has been asked and answered here before. I can't remember the answer to everything, and this is one.
EDIT: Found it in the service manual, Section 3 page 104, 1. Air breather hose.
It is open to the atmosphere, the other end goes on a nipple on the converter case case.

Thanks. I wasn't sure, I hadn't even seen it before and had no idea what it could be... Especially with the white residue in it

It looks a little big to be the breather hose, but it may just be the picture.
You should be able to trace it back to the source, and if it's coming from the trans, then yeah it's definitely the breather hose.
