So i think i have done something stupid. On the forester 440cc gray top injecters there is a brown cap that sits on the injecter nozzle (the part that goes into the intake manifold). I have accidentally broken one of them. Does anyone know if they are necessary? Or can i take them all off and run the car without them?
Pics for reference:

Remove all the injectors, send them to
http://witchhunter.com/
They will clean, flow check, test, all of them, and replace pintel caps(the part you broke) if necessary, and equip with new o-rings.
Answer to your question-- think you need that piece.

are the pintel caps available by themselves, say from the dealership?

No, the dealer won't have just the pintel cap. You can try contacting witchhunter or another fuel injection service place and see if they will sell you just the cap.
