Timing Belt Kit

Post by wvufan8353 »

Had the timing belt break on my 1994 Legacy Sport, 2.2 turbo, 4eat.

Mechanic quoted me at 4 hours labor, plus 600 for the parts. I thought the 600 seemed a little bit steep.

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on a good kit that has all the essentials plus water pump, cam seals etc...

Thanks for your help in advance!

Gates stuff works pretty well and is cheap on amazon and rockauto.

Don't have a kit for the turbo so you will have to mix and match a little.

TCK172 is the belt+pullies
T43204 is the tensioner
42336 is the water pump

should probably pick up a thermostat, gasket, and new upper and lower hoses at the dealership while you're at it.

Thanks alot for your help jamal. Mechanic mentioned i should replace cam seals while in that far, would you happen to know a part number for them as well?

I assume the only difference between the N/A kit and the turbo kit is the different water pump?

Would this kit work? It looks like the only other things I would have to get would be the hydraulic tensioner and the cam seals?

The old style tensioner that is on these cars doesn't fail on its own. Only way I've ever seen a bad one is when its been subjected to weather and they rust stuck.

Honestly I ebay'd my timing belt kit and it wasn't too expensive. I got pulleys and belt. You shouldn't have to replace the tensioner. When you do the belt, you need to compress the tensioner very slow or you can ruin it. I use a 6" C-Clamp.

there' shouldn't be much of a difference between 91 and 92-4. only thing different is the water pump because the 91 model has an oil cooler line coming off the water pump.
