95 L 22ecu run 22T?

Post by monkeyposeur »

I'm currently building a 22T w/ .020 os Wisecos, stock 22t crank, and STi rods to swap into my 95 L wagon. Block soon to be decked and bored. My goal is a 205/22T hybrid with a vf39 or equivalent and will use 02 wrx ecu for em. I have 205 heads with upgraded springs, tleg xmember, 02 wrx complete harness (dash, engine, ecu, interior) that I will merge.

I have JDM ver 6 gc8 control arm assemblies as well as JDM 4 pots to install. Also have kyb gr2s and H&R springs so braking and suspension upgrades are covered.

I have a few sets of 22T heads, dp, up, vf12, tdo4, intake mani, XT tmic. I am toying with the idea of swapping in the 22t block w/upgraded internals with 22t heads (may learn some porting skills) and running the vf12 or tdo4 w/XT tmic using the stock 22e ecu for em while I work on the 205 heads, harness merge (will source 95 harness from salvage yard), save for turbo & tune, etc.

I know the 205/22t setup is going to provide a lot more power but it might be fun to try running the built 22t longblock while I prepare everything for the final swap.

Lots of folks have boosted a 22e with a stock 22e ecu and run 5 psi so I don't see why it couldn't run a 22t. Maybe I could run more than 5 psi with a built 22t and proper tmic and rrfpr, Walbro 255 lph. I'd imagine the 22e injectors wouldn't be up to the task if I go beyond 5 psi but not sure.

Think it would work? :)

Well for starters the ej22e is not a phase 2, that's the ej222.

I don't see why it wouldn't run on the ej22e ecu, as long as you run the proper sensors for that ecu.

Will it run, yes. Will it run well, doubtful.

Oops! Forgot about that detail. Derp. Edited thread title.

Have any insight as to how a 22e ecu can run a boosted 22e successfully but will not run a 22t block very well? I'm not married to the idea by any means.

At a glance the 22e and 22t sensors look identical. Ill have to check the parts catalog to see if the part numbers are identical.

They most may be the same, but I know the tps is different.

The difference in ej22e turbos and the ej22t, as far as the ecu is concerned is the compression ratio, realistically it'll probably do alright, but in my head I'd want to run more than 5 psi to make up for that difference, but maybe I'm wrong. I don't have a very big knowledge base with turbos.

The difference in compression ratos was my main concern. The 22t is about 8.1:1 and the phase 1 22e is close to 9.5:1 iirc. With forged internals the 22t can handle a lot more than psi asssuming no det. At the very least id need a rrfpr. I think I might try it and see what happens. If it works I could boost the wagon a year ahead of schedule, lol.
