How can I tell what year this engine is?

Heads, valves, pistons, rods, crankshaft, etc...

How can I tell what year this engine is?

Post by bingerthedog »

I bought a '90 Legacy that had the engine replaced. I was assuming that it was done with another engine from the same year, but I was wrong. I went to get the injectors rebuilt and found out they are nothing like the injectors in the '90 Legacy's. Is there some way I can get the year off the engine so when I order new injectors I get the correct ones?

Your engine is probably from a 92-94 Legacy. They changed injector designs in 92. Do the injectors have a plastic red top?

No they are plastic gray tops and some of them have a blue circle on them.

Isn't the VIN of the original car stamped on the engine somewhere?
2009 Outback 2.5XT. 5MT. Satin White Pearl.
2009 Impreza 2.5i Premium. Blue.

In short an engine cannot be identified easily, and there usually isnt much reason as long as its from a first generation legacy (not 95+)
