Quick lowering question...

Post by BAC5.2 »

I've helped lower a car before (well, I helped for a few hours before going back to school, but I know what's done).

I was wondering how different it would be lowering an AWD car (the car we lowered was a Taurus).

I'd like to know any experiences with "things I should have done" from you guys.

The Taurus lowering took like 4 days due to tool breakage (Cold weather).

While my car a 94, it has brand new struts so the hardwear should be alright and we can probably knock it out in a day or two.

Any tips would be great!

No real difference, use lowerng springs, coilovers etc, just install em and go.

Oh, definately use proper springs. No comprimises when it comes to saftey.

Coilovers are a bit to harsh for my daily commute. I drive a lot of harsh roads. They would be nice, but the cost and the ride is kind of prohibitive.

As long as I won't be running into issues with the rear drivetrain, I'll be good :)

Nope, the lowering springs would just be removing some of the travel that comes wiht the stock suspension.

I cant really think of how an AWD is different, the rear of the car is like lowering an independant suspension RWD and the front is like lowering the average FWD car.

I've never lowered an IRS RWD car. But I have lowered an IRS FWD car.

I don't think I'll run into any problems. Even less problems if I swap struts and springs all at once.

it will be slightly more negative, depends on how much you lower the car.

mTk: Is right, but its very little difference. Besides negative camber is usually a good thing!

You have to get it aligned, without camber bolts (crap) or adjustable control arms you cant adjust rear camber.
