dubrex, how would you like your money order made out? Do I just make it out to MSR?
I should be able to send it out on Friday.

It looks like MSR is not out of the exhaust business, afterall. Jeff Miles, my dad, is happy to continue selling the CES systems. He's been doing this with me from the start and as ryan and matt will attest, he's very helpful and quick with responses. He's happy to continue because he enjoys it. He likes the product and the business, which is everything because it really doesn't seem very profitable at the moment. I'll have him on the legacy boards in no time to answer all your questions.

Sweet! Yes, I can attest that Jeff is also a really good guy to deal with. I'm glad to see that MSR isn't going to the wayside.

Thanks for the kind words. I am indeed covering MSR, and just came back from six weeks in Australia (otherwise known as Liberty heaven). While I was gone, Jon got the STI ripped off, and we both just saw it in the wrecking yard. What do you call a Legacy with a kickass 2.5?
Let me know if I can help with anything, and we (us and Trevor) will try to keep you guys from missing out on all the fun.

Jeff - Are you now the man to speak to about the exhausts?
I'm sorry for being out of the loop, as money get's spent elsewhere on the car, the exhaust has been getting pushed back and has not had my full attention.
I've spoken with Jon about the system. Just a matter of the money at this point.
Is CES offering Headers? What would a full-stainless block to tip kit run?

You mean you want one of the bulletproof, 7 speed sequential gearsets, with the paddle-actuated hydraulic shifters, I stuck in my suitcase?
Two of my three sons are part of MSR -- Jon; here in the US, and Ken, in Australia. We're always looking to find more stuff, and we're willing to get it made by people who have the right skills, when we can't find it. Just ask my wife (a charter member of the "stuff" police).
BAC5.2
Trevor can make SS headers, but he doesn't recommend it, unless you just making a show car. Without getting exhaustive, stainless has too high a COE (coefficient of expansion), and too low an upper temperature limit, to be a good choice for manifolds. Can be done? Yes. Should be done?
I'd rather interest you in a set of hybred ceramic/steel rotors we're working on (for real).

Not sure yet, probably the mounts at the least but I really need to do the bushings and I could use new syncros on 2nd and maybe first. I don't know though, I might just end up slappin' it on pretty soon and skippin' the tranny because I'm getting antsy, ya know?BAC5.2 wrote:What are you doing to the tranny?

I'm just going to throw a plug in here for these guys. Great exhaust MSR! I'm very impressed. I still have to install the uppipe and the front pipe, but I'm guessing that won't change the sound at all. As things stand, I'm very happy with it. I'm interested to see how things chart out compared to mtk's exhaust after I get it dynoed (and i have no idea when that will be, hehe).

Several Legacy street systems have been recently shipped, to places like Denver and Bremerton, WA, and hopefully they will lead to some additional postings of performance results and installation details.
It would be nice to get the word out, good or bad. I'm working on trying to compile all the installation details.
We still have one complete Legacy race system, in the US. Deliveries from Australia are taking about 2 weeks.

Jeff
I have the CES TBE installed on my '91 Legacy Sport Sedan 5M/T now, and am very impressed with its performance, quality and appearance. It should have only taken about five days to get it from Australia but it missed its flight because of customs in Memphis Tenn. and then there was the July 4 holiday thrown in there also, so it cam a few days later than we thought it would. The package was in great shape and the product was wrapped and packaged very well. All the pieces are just beautiful, very high quality. Now we install them under the car where you can't see it, what a shame. You can see the nice rear end of the muffler, shiny 4" hole though ! I inspected the components before install and you should do the same. There were some metal chips in the center section that I had to clean out. Jeff said he would reccomend to CES that they clean it out before shipping. The instructions included from CES were for a WRX but it is a general guideline. As usual the removal of the old exhaust really is the hardest part. Make sure to clean the flange on the turbo real well before you start installation. Because of the addition of the BEP, and the fact that the flange on the downpipe that bolts to the turbo is a little thicker than stock, I had to buy two new longer bolts for the top two bolts. Remember that the heatstack mounting bracket bolts there also. Checkfit the BEP for interference, not a problem for mine. Bolt the DP to the turbo, use the reccomended sealant on applicable surfaces, manipulate the hanger to the stock bracket it mates with. Remember to pay particular attentioin to tighten the flange evenly. Tighten this flange before you attatch the cat to the DP. There were some arrows in felt marker on the cat to indicate flow, orient it correctly. Attatch the cat to DP flange with gasket and bolts and do the same for the center section to cat, and then muffler to center section, leave everything loose until all pieces are in place finger tight, I used some small dia. rope to hold everything up temporarily until the hangers were in place, then went back to the most forward flange and worked my way aft, tightening. Use hi-temp thread lube on fasteners. I originally installed Kartboy hangers but they caused the system to ride to high and the muffler pipe rubbed on the left drive axle. Removed them and put the OE rubber ones on, and that allowed the system to hang a little lower and it didn't contact anything after that. You will notice that there is a few places where contact could be made at some points. Let the parts naturally hang low and you will have clearance. You will have to trim the heat stack to fit it back on. I used an electric dremel type tool with a cutting blade on and it did the job. I disconnected the battery before I started the job, reset the ECU. This system sounds great, just the sound makes it like a completely different car. The BEP and twin dump pipe allow the turbo to work much more efficiently, you will like it. I am very impressed. If you want to really make a diffenence for your Legacy SS I would highly reccomend this system. It does seem like it costs a lot, but the quality and performance make it a good value. If you want more informatioin from me, please let me know, I am happy to talk about it. Jeff and Jon at MSR are great to do bussiness with.

I'm still working on my write up DIY install guide for the CES system. I have most the pics ready but just haven't had the time to write it up yet. I'll post it up soon though I hope.
