Not going to pass inspection...

Post by BAC5.2 »

Yea, my car won't pass inspection. Maybe.

Coming home from CT, within the first 10 minutes of ownership, my mom kicked up a rock on the highway and it put a dime sized chip in the winshield.

We filled it with one of the repair kits, but it's still obvious that there is a chip.

My mechanic said that the chip might not get me through inspection.

Talk about suck, lol. I need the car on the road ASAP because I have an appointment for Tint on Thursday at 2pm.

Sometimes your insurance has glass coverage. Back when I used to be on my dad's insurance, I had my windshield replaced twice at a cost of about $50 to me (over the course of six years or so). If you don't have that coverage, then I think you're stuck getting a new windshield put in. Most of the windshield places come to wherever you are to install it too.

Don't listen to Laurel about tint :) It makes the car look sooooo much better IMHO.

tint really does make the cars look a bit more presentable. It's just a good line when I dont have the dough to tint my car.

my insurance has $4 deductible on glass

He he he. MA pays full for windshields - even for sandblasting. I get a new one about every two years. I hope they charge SUV drivers extra since they're the pricks usually taking out my windshield with a rock. Even had one come over from another lane.

Meh, I'm not to worried about how much it'll cost. We won't take it through insurance because it was my mom that threw the rock at me. Won't claim it on my insurance to keep rates down, won't claim it on hers because that'd be dumb.

Crazy Ray's sells windshields for $60 including removal labor. Go there.

I remember when I bought my old Impreza it had a chip in the windshield and the dude commented on how it wouldn't pass inspection in MD but it passed in VA after he applied the filler stuff.

Where is the chip?

Inspection here where I am states that as long as there are no chips or cracks in direct view from the driver seat then you're fine. Or where the driver side windshield wiper wipes is the common way to judge. I've had a crack in my windshield where my roof is caving in, but it passed inspection...

I'll be getting a new windshield without the funky blue strip in june when I get my roof repaired.

The Winshield is being replaced now. The shop who is doing the inspection is doing the work. Probably could have gotten it done for less money, but not tomorrow. The car will be registered by tomorrow.

HELLLL Yea! The interior looks shitty because of my ghetto boost gauge.

I really need to get my real boost gauge so I can start making my custom center panel.

Actually.... Matt, if you would let me borrow one of your gauges (assuming it's a 2 1/16th gauge) I could get the panel done (and we could design a panel for you in exchange).

I plan on building a panel to angle the gauges up towards me. Then fiberglass over it, smooth it out, then paint it satin black or cover it in black vinyl.

Bad ass! I'll let you borrow the OBX. It's a 2 1/16" . That'd be cool. I'll be needing my set up soon too, for at least the EGT but I want to have probably 3 mounting points in all for future gauges. So that will work out real nice. I'll bring it next week.

Hey, I just thought of something -- Matt, if you want to install the gauge that's currently in Phil's car into your car when he's done with it, go for it. It's my gauge as soon as he's done with it but I don't need it at the moment. It'll definitely be more accurate than your OBX gauge.

Phil - I mailed your MBC and FCD today. :)

Awesome! I can get started then. We can work out the plans for the gauge when we meet up.

I shouldn't have any problem doing the custom work. If I can do this, then I'll have some street-cred and be able to start making fiberglass interior peiced for members. The center gauge cluster will be a limited production of 2 though, lol. For now at least, I don't know how much it'll cost to make.

Vikash - Thanks man! I've got to rip apart my basement to find the mount. If I don't find it, I'll find one somewhere. I am 99.9% sure it's still down there.

Oh. Yeah.

I did see that thread. And I remember thinking how clean the install looked.

I'm just forgetful these days.

They should. I just need to get the gauge so I can do some placement and design modeling. Then I need to get some wood and work it all out, glass it up, cover it, glass that up, bondo, sand, prime, paint, then go from there.

I need my car back before I can get a plan down for a generic panel.

I'm glad I have summer to do this. I was a pimp with paper mache' in elementary school, so I should be good to go with the glass.

if it's been 3 months, what's one more day? At least he's being honest and letting you know he can't finish it all in one day, and not just slapping it together and "finishing" it.
