got td05 how to install

Post by jake15 »

i got my td05 thanks to kostamojen and now i need to know what to do to change the turbos. i have both of them off and sitting on a bench side by side. i see that the coolant lines need to be changed what else? i did a search but it just brought up threads on how difficult it was and there wasn't really a rundown of what else i need and what else has to be done. any info. is greatly appreciated.

on my wrx I just switched the coolant and oil hard lines over and then reinstalled.

make sure you get all the air out of the coolant system after you're done swapping the turbo.

as a side note...now would be the best time to port the wastegate if you're up to it.

Go to the engine forum and find my "1990BF to EJ20G powered GT" conversion thread. In it VRG links a copy of the FSM that will give you step by step instructions on how to replace a turbo...

http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic. ... o5+install is that the one? because i read the whole thing and didnt see anything the would tell me how to replace a turbo, maybe i'm blind. the engine is out of the car so i have no coolant in it yet. i would port the wastegate if i had enough money. also is there anything else i will need to buy? thanks

Look at the second sticky thread in the "Stuff You Need to Know" forum. Josh has posted a copy of the engine manual.

It depends on which style cartridge you are using, some of the TD05-16G's use the same size banjo bolts as the TD04's and RHB5, however, the newer cartridges use a 2mm larger bolt which is VERY hard to find, it took us almost a year to source them.

Screw them out of the VF series and see if they will fit in the TD series, they might be too small. I have the larger ones if you need them, they are near impossible to find.
