air intake pressure
i have been thinking about modding my intake. By putting a pipe thro my front bumper and straight in to the factory clear box. and blocking off the old hole. i should get more pressure because at full throttle air will be pushing in the hole. I have a turbo will this make it easier to spin.. any ideas better performance..
if your wheels arnt smokin your not driving it fast enought!!!

No, that idea won't do very much (if anything).
The turbo is sucking as much air as it can. Forcing air into the inlet isn't gonna do much, as the turbine only spins as fast as the exhaust.
Remove the clear box all together, and be done with it.

The air pressure will be insignificant. You'll be trading one cold air intake for another. If you want, take off the little snorkus that is in the fender, but i think this only makes you feel like your faster- the car has less low end so when the turbo kicks in its a larger instantaneous accel.

The turbo's sucking as much air as it can, but that doesn't mean reducing restriction upstream of the compressor won't do anything... I mean, consider the extreme case -- if you put a restrictor on the compressor inlet or have a clogged air filter. That definitely affects performance, no?
In theory, if you can increase pressure upstream of the compressor then you can achieve the same boost at a lower turbine rotational speed. That ought to translate to theoretically quicker spoolup and potentially more efficient boost.

Even still, the bends the intake has to make, would negate any "ram air" effects. Our intake, stock, flows pretty well. Get rid of that preturbo resonator, and you're flowing about as well as you can.

The air restrictions will have even more of an effect on a turbo motor than non-turbo. If there are undue restrictions the turbo has to work harder, and delivers a hotter less dense charge.
Here is an excellent treatment based on science. the real message here is that it is not possible to eyeball the system and guess at where the restrictions may be.

Check out the dyno results. More of a difference in some cases than many over-priced minimal effects such as after-market filters, so-called tuned intakes, etc.
There is little question the silliest thing to do is to add an intake that sucks in hot engine bay air, that is a sure loser and no doubt worse than stock. The best systems I've seen either draw from the bumper / frontal area, or from removed lights and are fully sealed away from engine heat.

Okay, in theory the highest dynamic pressure you could have going into the turbo, is qbar = .5*density*V^2 so assuming sea level conditions density = 0.002378 slug/ft^3 and and at 60 mph (88 ft/s), qbar = 9.208 lb/ft^2 or 0.0639 psi. You're best off trying to optimize the flow going into the turbro. You'll ideally have the same pressure the whole length but due to viscocity, turbulance, etc. you'll have less dynamic pressure at your turbo than 'ideal'. However the more turbulance you can remove the better off you are. And of course, cold is always better
