Power Steering
I've had no power steering for 2 weeks now and I want it back.
I don't know where I can get the parts (haven't tried the dealer yet but I'm trying to avoid them.) I have some rusty lines and this is causing the problem. The fittings are also very rusty going to the rack.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? What solution did you have. I don't necessarily wan to buy a new rack but I think if I start trying to get those fittings loose I will nothing left to attach new fittings to. I've been searching on this site and haven't come up with a solution that I wouldn't mind paying for (quicker rack for non-outrageous price would be nice. I would like to replace the lines that are rusty. Is this a large job? Does anyone have the FSM procedure?

I actually have no power steering either, but not just none, but NONE because I am not spinning the power steering pulley at all. It is totally livable this way, just not preferable. I would attempt to bypass your power steering pulley by getting another belt and try that until you can actually fix all your messed up crap. The only time I miss the PS is when I am parking. The loss of it actaully makes the car handle better in my hands.

my ps pump is bypassed because of my SC setup. But get a Dayco Polycog belt 5050.... They are great belts.

Yes. Subaru specifies a limit to how much to put in for a reason, of course. As the fluid heats up it needs room to expand. If you don't have enough space in the system because you've overfilled it, it'll force its way past seals in other places. If you're especially unlucky, some will spray onto a hot exhaust component, where it'll catch fire.
If you've overfilled your power steering system, just get a $1.99 turkey baster and remove the excess fluid.

SubaruNation - What's the big deal? Just take some fluid out.
But anyway, back on topic -- integrator, what about just getting a junkyard rack with its lines? Swapping the steering rack isn't that big a job, and I'd imagine you could get the rack for less than a hundred bucks.

It's just going to overflow. You don't have to worry about the seals because the extra fluid isn't going to change the output pressure of the pump.
