Damn car is pissing me off!

Post by evolutionmovement »

Went to the gas station off the highway last night and it was running great. Filled it and it tried to start, but I had to hold the gas down to get it just to try to make 1k rpm for a few seconds before it died and would only occasionally knock a power stroke out. As an aside, the gas station guy was an assmonkey. So I think fuel pump as it's original and I don't hear it come on (though I never did before either). Had to have it towed  and replaced the fuel pump today from AutoZone as they're the only ones with one in stock ($104. Dealer wanted $315!). Replaced and tried to start ... starter spins like the solenoid's not engaging the flywheel. Grr, a broken timing belt! WTF it's only 6 months old!

I bet the tensioner failed.

That would explain its attempted running - must have skipped a tooth or two and then when trying to start again it probably came off completely. Thank god its non-interference!

I'm never going DOHC. I miss my EA81s - no stupid t-belt and I never had tso many problems with them. I know it's old, and the fuel pump being dead would have been perfectly acceptable, but this is just pissing me off and I have to pay to have my mechanic to do what I normally would as its way too cold and dark out and I wouldn't have any way to do it until next weekend anyway.

If the car didn't look so hot with the Forester wheels, didn't have the brakes coming in, and I wasn't moving along with the headlight project, I ... well I'd still fix it as I can't afford anything else.

F' Bush up the ass with a 2x4 with a nail sticking out for this stagnant economy.

Sorry to hear that dude. My car broke down at a gas station also one time and the attendant was an asshole. $315 for a new pump is crazy, but i guess thats expected from the dealer. Hope things work out.

Are all your idler pullies okay? Did the belt just snap or did it show signs of fatigue?

That's weird, I've never had a belt that I just replaced snap on me on either car or on any other cars I've done.

Yeah, I'm scared of DOHC Subaru engines. It's really not that necessary if you ask me, as you already have two cams, and each one has to do half the work of a SOHC inline engine cam.

Hope you get everything figured out, always remember... "at least that's one more new part you don't have to worry about"

I didn't take the covers off, but I'm sure it's the T-belt tensioner. The failure mode makes perfect sense if the fuel pump is excluded. I just hope it didn't take anything else out, but the covers are all intact, so I might be okay. Just inconvenient to not have the car and pay out on this. I have my work Christmas party Mon night, too, so if my mechanic can't get to it, I'm f'd on that and there's an office girl there I'd like a better chance to talk to. There's also the yard manager who bizarrely said he knew me by linking me to a girl I went to elementary school with and have only seen once since. However, she was the first girl I had a crush on and last time I saw her she looked so much like my ex that my friend cringed at the thought of my impending doom. Anyway, I'd like to see if I could find out how she's doing.

I may have to take back my statements about my car not being jealous - it's as if she knows. She did this kind of thing to me before, too. Either that or I'm suffering from a curse.
