Went to the gas station off the highway last night and it was running great. Filled it and it tried to start, but I had to hold the gas down to get it just to try to make 1k rpm for a few seconds before it died and would only occasionally knock a power stroke out. As an aside, the gas station guy was an assmonkey. So I think fuel pump as it's original and I don't hear it come on (though I never did before either). Had to have it towed

and replaced the fuel pump today from AutoZone as they're the only ones with one in stock ($104. Dealer wanted $315!). Replaced and tried to start ... starter spins like the solenoid's not engaging the flywheel. Grr, a broken timing belt! WTF it's only 6 months old!
I bet the tensioner failed.
That would explain its attempted running - must have skipped a tooth or two and then when trying to start again it probably came off completely. Thank god its non-interference!
I'm never going DOHC. I miss my EA81s - no stupid t-belt and I never had tso many problems with them. I know it's old, and the fuel pump being dead would have been perfectly acceptable, but this is just pissing me off and I have to pay to have my mechanic to do what I normally would as its way too cold and dark out and I wouldn't have any way to do it until next weekend anyway.
If the car didn't look so hot with the Forester wheels, didn't have the brakes coming in, and I wasn't moving along with the headlight project, I ... well I'd still fix it as I can't afford anything else.
F' Bush up the ass with a 2x4 with a nail sticking out for this stagnant economy.
