D'oh! Missed that!

Guess I'm used to this being an issue on even older cars.

Sheesh... he goes and gets a fancy 2004 STi and forgets all about how advanced BC/BFs are...

:)

slickmasterc - Did you run the engine to the point where it completely stalled out from lack of fuel? Is it possible the pump has to be primed or something? I wouldn't think so, since I've never heard of it being done, but... just thinking out loud.

You basically need to check that you are getting spark and fuel. A timing light is a good way to check for spark. But your problem is most likely fuel anyway.... can you hear the fuel pump energize for a few seconds when you turn the key to the "ON' position if you listen for it? When you try to crank the engine, can you hear the injectors click with a stethoscope?

That pretty much sums it up. I never have the time to look under Laurel's hood when she comes up to see me. ;)

I just thought of something, slickmasterc. I believe our fuel pumps are meant to be cooled by the fuel flowing through them. If you had a somewhat old pump the begin with, and overheated it by running the car out of fuel, that may have killed it.

Check the voltage supplied. On my XT6 the fuel relay would trigger but it wouldnt run. I finally checked the voltage and it was 9 volts! Couldnt find the bad ground spot so I just got a wire splice (clamps onto a wire and adds a seperate lead) and bolted it to a new ground.

Ya i had dis problem a while back on my Legacy, we took the fuel pump out and noticed that one of the wires going into the fuel pump had melted, we just soldered it back.

Fuel filter? Sometimes if there is a lot of crud in a tank, and you run it way way down, it might get sucked up, and clog your filter or something....
Of course I've also noticed that subaru tend to have about a gallon in reserve, that can't be used, you'll run out of gas and its still in there. I think this tends to prevent that problem...
but its worth a shot.

I'm with Morgie, check the electrical lines under the back seat on the right hand side of the car. I had to splice my wires and put in a new connector.
