To remove it from the stock ECU would involve a custom EPROM.

I'm not sure who can do that affordably.

A standalone is most likely your best bet considering your other mods.

I was looking for this also for a friend racing his Legacy on a 3/8 circle track. Some MSD igition units have adjustable rev limiters but I cant get a answer on if it can over-ride the ECU's set limit.

No it can't. The ECU fires the coils directly, so when the ECU hits rev limit, there will be no signal to 'override'.

find "storm" on nasioc/rs25, he can hack the ecu's and raise the rev limit to whatever you need rilly.

More then likely, he can only do that on the OBD2 ECU's.

With the 02 WRX and all DBW cars its VERY EASY to change the rev limiter. In fact you can even add a custom rev limiter at say 4k RPM that automatically disengages once VSS1 has a signal for launch control!

Depends what ECU your car has. Some Legacies between 1992 and 1996 use the same JECS OBD1 ECU as the SVX. But I think it's only the non-turbo cars, not the Turbo versions. I have been doing some work on my SVX ECU and I know where the rev limit is stored and how to reprogram it. If you have the same ECU and are good with computers and electronics then drop me an email and I'll explain it to you.

just to bump this, storm can raise the limit to 7,500. he charges like $50 plus shipping for you to send your ecu to him. then he mails it back with the higher limit. he has like a 1 week turn around time. you can contact him on nasioc
