Ok, This is a Legacy Rebuild, Mostly engine...

I thought I would chronicle the Journey of my 91 T-leg here and let you guys know what I'm up to... I'll start with some pictures from when I first got her... and to now... Any suggestions, comments, or offers of help more than welcome!! I purchased this thing for $100 dollars...

This is After her First pressure wash bath.... She was sitting in a storage and was ugly as hell and because she was sitting at my moms house I had to clean her up...

Interior Shots, Teardown and rebuild. (had to get the mold out and put in a new carpet....

Whole Exhaust off... (I'm thinking to take the Metal protectors off and get some heat rap for the exhaust, Cause I would think that would keep it cooler?

Head bolts, The assembly process really I don't like which was torque to 27 foot pounds. then too 55 foot pounds then back it off 180 Degrees, then to like 38 foot pounds... Then turn it 90 degrees more...

Water pump and Oil pump, I like the o.E. Water pump gasket... Its METAL!! :D I used grey RTV a reallly fine bead all the way around the Oil pump..

Nice picture journal.

85 degree weather.....that's nothing ;)

Did you figure out how to remove the pressure plate & clutch fork? You need to remove the hex plug on the transmission. Then you will need a bolt to thread into the clutch fork pivot pin so you can pull it out. Once you do that, you can remove the pressure plate and clutch fork.

When you put everything back together you need to install the clutch fork and throw out bearing onto the transmission snout before installing the engine. Once the engine is in, the TOB will snap into the pressure plate.


Did you put the oil squirter back in?

Also, 85 degree weather for me is a killer, Its the reason that I got Released from the military.... Heat stroke... Unfortunatly

If the threads weren't striped out of the pin. You could have used a timing cover bolt and pulled on that with pliers.

Good luck with repairing those connectors. It looks like a lot of that wire is quite brittle...

I was also wondering. How did you separate you transmission and engine with out taking the TOB pin out? Took the Pressure plate bolts off through the starter hole?

After several months of nothingness. I finally got some more done on my engine.... I put the Rear Main Seal in... And Got the Number 4 piston out and put the spray nozzle back in and now I just have to get Rings and clean the piston to get it back in the hole... It wont go back in with the old Rings?? so rings and put back together.. no pictures cause I was working on like seven different things at once... Cleaning up my moms house.

Quick Question, does the throwout bearing come loose from the pressure plate so I can reuse it? its still good?

I suggest use either 90 degrees or 75+ ft lbs on the last turn of the head bolts, whichever is MORE.

I personally usually do 25-50-80 using the "turbo" method even on NA cars (starting with the center bolts)

This is going back in Tomorrow, After a quick retorque of the heads. I'm hoping to have it back in quickly Its not a priority to get it running but at least back in and get things hooked up.. I'm taking my camera tomorrow.. So pics soon.

gah, youre so lucky over there. arent most of you guys here american? it seems like everyone got a Turbo legacy. ive yet to see one here in norway. either on the streets, or the used-car websites.

here i am with my 1.8 engine :)
