well froze up the turbo tranny in the turbo wagon. So I guess time for replacement. Question is what to replace with. 2.5 rs tranny , wrx tranny, sti tranny, thailand tranny?
What is the most cost effective and reliable. I read a lot of infi that the wrx is a weaker tranny than our turbos!?

I vote STI 6spd but it's certainly not cost effective.

You can get most things you'd need. If you want to replace synchros, you might have difficulty finding the originals - they updated the design.
If you're ambitious enough to crack into one, I would highly recommend begging/borrowing/stealing the special alignment tools. It can be done without them, but they make it much easier. The fore-aft positioner for the pinion shaft was particularly useful, it took allot of the guesswork out of shimming to get the correct differential lash (which must be done through the sump hole while assembled and torqued).
