Hello

Post by Hakka »

I figure this is as good of a place as any to say hello. I have always been into Volkswagens and still am very much part of things Volkswagen but have within the last few years getting more into the Subarus (keeping it flat 4, ha). My Brother has a 91 legacy wagon that is quite the tank, my folks have a 2010 Forester, and most of the people I know around eastern WA are running around in Subarus now. I am tossing around the idea of picking up a Subaru myself and figured I would join this board to learn more "stuff".

Hi, I am very much into VW's too. I have a 84 Jetta GLI Coupe, A Audi B5 A4 Avant and a 92 Legacy Turbo sedan (SS). If your talkin flat 4's I guess your into aircooled's then ? My first car was a Type 3 Fastback, then I ended buying a Legacy and dailying that for a few years until a pesky Talon wrote it off. I ended up finding the Jetta, had it as a daily for a few years until it became a summer car/project. I then sunk into the world of VW's, going to all the shows and cruises in the PNW. Now basically all of my friends are in the "scene". I could never forget my first Legacy though and all the fun times and the abuse it took,so when I was looking for a daily for myself, A FWD MK2 Just wasn't gonna cut it. So I got the 92 SS and am almost got it on the road.

Exiting Story, I know :D

I would highly recommend one if you want AWD, I would say there probably more reliable than a Audi B3/4 and with so many compatible parts from GC Impreza's and GD WRX's they are so easy to modify.

What VW's do you have or had ?

Cool enough story for me
I have had a 67 beetle, 71 westfalia bus, 89 GLI, and am daily driving a 63 beetle.
Mostly into the aircooled stuff but the jetta was really a pretty good car with the exception of those pesky v-belts. I like all european stuff and appreciate anything well done. I am not really a fan of FWD but the MPG thing is nice. Living in the Pacific Northwest and being an "outdoorsy" person the AWD of friends cars and my brothers legacy really has me thinking seriously about a Subaru.
I still have my old 67 but it is wrecked and on the side of the house under covers and such. It was a great car and sorely missed. It has sort of lent some parts over the years. The bent frame head is what is stopping me on it.
Here is a picture of it in one of the various stages of its life: (If moderators have a problem with non-subaru stuff on here I will gladly remove the images)

That car went everywhere. Stock 1500 and problem free. In that picture it has drop spindles. Front horn grills were shaved, euro blade bumpers, 4 lug conversion brakes, aftermarket exhaust, scat seats up front, pre-66 chrome trim, various other stuff.
The old bus was a more tired but pretty useful with all of the space and camping was fantastic. It had all over the 71 specific bits and was a tank. The engine leaked oil like a seiv and was probably putting out half the original hp...which made it even slower. :P
The old GLI:

This thing ran like a raped ape. That 16v was fun. A lot of modifications to this one, but this is a Subaru forum and do not think anyone really cares.
The 63 I am running around now. Original paint and interiour with 1776 power. Again, a whole host of things on this one.

Thanks for the words of wisdom in things euro to subaru. Generally speaking I am impressed with the engineering of the cars. I have been dabbling in Subarus for a bit now. About a year ago I did a waterpump, timing belt, and all of the related stuff for that on an..I think it was 01 STI. Other random junk around I suppose with all these people I know owning Subarus I typically end up digging into one every now and then :-)

I should toss it out there that I am looking for a decent Subaru in WA or North ID. I personally have never dealt with importing from Canada but am not opposed to the idea if the car was right.

If I had the means, this is the car I'd get:

It's what every Impreza RS secretly wishes it was.

I loved my VW (a v6 5-speed passat) but I wouldn't get back into one unless I could somehow afford a late 90s TDI. They go for around double to triple the bluebook. Not saying they are or aren't worth that, but that's a lot for me.

Interesting that so many here have owned Volkswagens. That car posted earlier on NASIOC is a bit out of the price range ;-)
I am still looking though.

Some Sick VW's guys, Why choose one brand when you can have it all !!!

Ideally I would like to have the Jetta for the street and the Subie for the dirt. Just put 18's with 40 series on the Legacy though and my VW habits are telling me to throw some coils on that b!tch and slam it !!! Subie's are meant to be rally cars though and that's what the Jetta & Audi are for. No sense having 3 cars I can't take camping

I wouldn't bother as it seems to be tons more as soon as I cross the line into WA. Not to many up here. I guess there seems to be quite a few up in the interior ( Kelowna ) That's if Logan (Bmxkelowna) and his friends don't own them all :-D

I actually imported the Avant from WA sice they never had B5 Avant's in Canada. Wasn't to bad , just annoying and alot of fees. Cars are cheaper in the US anyway, that's why we all do it.

The Avant was never in Canada and the Jetta GLI Coupe was never sold in the states, Wierd and the Legacy is just plain rare in 5MT form. Damn I have good taste

Zagarus are you bringing the Coupe to Spring-Unsprung ? I might be there in the Avant but really wanted to re-finish the wheels that my wife curbed before I put them on. Really wanted to finish the Legacy first though. Might go either way.
