What can I mix-n-match?

Not sure that I have mentioned before that I have inherited two desktop computers. One is a DELL Dimension 4700C The other is a DELL Dimension 8400 They are a few years old, obviously. I was looking at specs and it seems that both have strong and weak points. The 8400 has a big hard-drive (80gb), a ...

I'd think that would be better documented if it were easily doable. That said, in all of the monster cars we've built we tend to err on the side of caution. Either go money on the 6MT swap AND use strong axles, or do a built 5MT and strong axles.

So you use the R180 guts (cage and bearings), the R160 cup, and bolt it all together?

That I have never tried. I played with a front axle, but it didn't work. I never really tried or cared about the rear. It may work fine.

What did you end up paying OTD on the Civic? It may be a feasible option if my next car isn't a Diesel Wagon of some form (hopefully a Turbo Diesel Outback) or a Prius.

A turn-key and drive car that gets 30 to 35 on the highway would be fantastic.

I'm pretty sure you can't. Driveshaftshop made those axles for us for a reason. I can get spline count information one day this week.

Wow, except for the mud-guards the Civic SI looks pretty nice in white.

I have had my eyes on a blue/gunmetal one. I'd really like the Mugen if it didn't cost half your manhood and was ULTRA prone to theft.

+1 Nice PICs! You should be able to hybird the outer CV joint of a R180 so that is fits into the stock R160 splined hub OR do the opposite & hybird the inner joint of a stock axle so that it will mate with a R180 rear. 93forestpearl was/is planning on doing something like that on his car. Negat...

There is a fundamental underlying problem. If they were so clever to look up the VIN and it came back FWD AT... Did they comment that not only is your car FWD, but there is no Park or Drive gear? You'd think if the VIN said it was an automatic, and the car is clearly a 5-speed, that would trigger a ...

That Subaru is about to eat that guy!!!

And the rear wheel is fine on it, it's partially in the air on stock suspension.

I have piped up in that USC thread. It's good that people are starting to challenge the "formula". A lot of ring-and-pinion failures have been traced back to one of the ingredients of the cocktail.

On motorcycles we used them to keep sunlight off of the clear reservoirs, as sunlight breaks down brake fluid.

Motorcycles are obviously faster than cars, so their secret must be the wristband.

Subaru's are notoriously easy to break into. But only a few people seem to care.

What kind of fluid did they use?

It's possible that it's a simple leak. Almost every old 5-speed leaks at some point.

Thanks! Flame me all you want. I'm building a 600whp, 2.8L, caged out drag car. The car is sitting at our cage builders right now about to get torn apart and welded back together. The motor is going to go together sometime next week and be put in the car the following. Once it's done, we get to play...

I didn't click the link, but to get a WRX gearset to work you need to replace EVERYTHING! All of the shafts, the pinion shaft (and ring gear), the center diff, transfer gears, engagement hubs, everything. Nothing will really bolt up. Even then, I don't suggest rebuilding your own transmission unless...

Why did they use a limited slip oil? You don't have a limited slip differential...

Sounds like they used some craptastic gear oil they get for 1.99 a quart and make 6x profit on.

Drain it out, use good stuff.

not entirely sure if the 5mt or 4eat makes a difference, the fluid can me "powerwashed" out. anyone else with more info? Short of putting a garden hose on the dipstick tube, you can't "powerwash" a manual transmission. Sounds like they used shitty fluid. Did they use GL5 fluid? ...

Josh,

He's got a 5-speed.

Don't run less than a 75w90... unless you feel the need to depart your ring and pinion teeth from one another.

There is nothing in the gearbox that needs "cleaning out"

Widest tire on an SRT4?

Anyone know? Long shot, but I want to know if a 245 will fit on an 18x8.5 et 38. SRT forums seem to only be concerned with 15" drag radials or the widest tire on a stock rim. I need a wide street wheel/tire combo that'll clear a set of coilovers and the fenders a set of 328mm Stoptechs and bein...

If people would listen to me from the beginning, then all of this would have been put to rest. My very first transmission posts have been about the non-use of Uncle Scotty's Cocktail. I even work at the shop DS1 mentions in their posts (and I spoke with Dylan and Jeff earlier today, though not about...
