I've been surprised at how little interest there's been locally. I've had four people call up, sounding interested, but then flake on me and not show up (seems to be our luck with Craigslist). Any serious offers will be considered, I have too many cars and keeping this one around makes it too diffic...

Thanks everyone; I feel sorry for Subies everywhere if my Legacy is considered to be in great shape! I guess a few paint chips and door dings are not a big deal compared to what many cars are subjected to. Heck, this car has only seen snow a small number of times (short ski trips and a couple winter...

FS: 91 Legacy L wagon (northern CA)
We couldn't pass up the deals on the '06s, and just picked up a new 2006 Legacy. So, our little '91 must go! This car has been a great member of our family since 2002, and has taken us on many camping and biking adventures. It has also proven invaluable for trips to Home Depot or Ikea, it's amazing ...

I found this thread via the search option, and decided to post here, as the original topic of this thread addresses my question - how do you tell WHICH CV joint is bad? I know that a clicking noise under accelerating or decelerating would indicate an inboard CV joint is bad, and a clicking noise whi...

The brake light in my '91 Legacy L has changed operation, it now acts as a thermometer. ;-) In cool conditions, it will light and remain lit indefinitely. If air temperatures are warm enough (~70F), the light usually doesn't appear. I checked the shop manuals, and it's either the brake fluid reservo...

whitemr2: Either you aren't telling the whole truth, your transmission rebuilder sucks or you have really bad luck. I personally have purchased THREE automatic legacy that now have between 150k-200k. Actually it was four legacy with auto but the 4th was a parts car. I'm the car's second owner; the ...

I don't know how much I'd trust a used auto tranny! Besides, how much life will be left on it? When I had tranny troubles, I did consider that route. The going price for a used tranny was around $600, with about the same amount for labor to remove my old one and install that used one. Considering my...

I'd only be wary of mileage if you were considering an automatic transmission. I'm sure many will swear that their auto Subarus are reliable and last a long time, but I've heard too many stories of them failing (and had a painfully expensive experience with that myself). If you're considering a high...

Re: Where did it go?
My guess would be that the timing belt was not installed correctly. Specifically, the camshaft timing is probably off.

Re: plans to fix a squishy 90-91 strut
So far my plan is to buy 2 agx front struts for a later model legacy, install them and set them soft, so i can use my non busted rear struts until i have enough money to buy rears. Can i get away with this? What issues might i run into? It's OK to only replace front or rear struts (as long as you r...

I've actually discovered a weird idle problem too. When the engine is cold, it idles fine. After I've driven it for a while, it will occasionally idle rough, and it seems to get worse when I put into neutral. But I can never predict which stop light it will happen at. Sometimes its just enough to b...

1) I'm getting a code 35 (Canister Purge Solenoid Valve) when I start the car after its been driven for a bit (basically when its warm). Aside from replacing it outright, is there anything I can check. I saw another post about using penetrating oil, anybody think I should try this? I just dealt wit...

Nate, Check out this place for parts: http://www.4subarusuzukikiaparts.com/ I talked to them when my tranny went out, and they seemed very familiar with the 5MT swap and know what's needed. You're in luck, they're located pretty close to you, I think. You might want to try putting it in '3' and pres...

I did some testing in a rain-soaked parking lot at lunch, here's what I found: - With the FWD fuse installed, there is no chattering, just a fair amount of wheelspin. :-) - In manual mode, the chattering seemed much less, usually absent in fact. - This car corners like it's on rails! I was amazed by...

Both front axles were replaced with aftermarket ones (one new, one rebuilt) a few months ago. I havn't checked the rears, I'll do that later today. I plan on taking it to an empty parking lot at lunch today and doing some more tests, including sticking a fuse in the FWD connector to see if that make...

Re: tranny cooler install question
My question is: Which of hte 2 lines, top or bottom, is the line to the radiator and which one coems from the radiator? I just had an external tranny cooler installed by a shop specializing in auto trannies. They hooked it up in series with the radiator cooler, with the bottom radiator cooler conne...

Can shuddering be normal in a 4EAT?
I just got my '91 Legacy wagon (auto, AWD) back from the shop where it got its tranny rebuilt (plus a transgo shift kit and external tranny oil cooler added!). I noticed a problem though. If I came to a complete stop, turned the wheel, and accelerated, I had a bad shudder in the car. I took it back ...
