Re: nosyt's 93 turbo legacy wagon

Check the temperature sensor for the ECU. I've had very similar experiences that turned out to be the temp the ECU 'sees' was always cold so the ECU was always in choke or warmup mode in regards to fueling and timing.

Re: The collection grows, not sure why....

I haven't been as active here as I would like, but I watch the BC community on Facebook. Here are a few updates for those who care. The SVX collection has grown. I have added a parts car for AWD swap parts and another fully loasded SVX that assumed daily driving duties. That make 3 (two running, one...

Re: Machine crankshaft

By far the fastest way would be to obtain a good phase 1 75mm stroke crank (EJ18, EJ20, EJ22).

Re: Machine crankshaft

There is nothing wrong with a properly machined undersize crank, as long as proper bearings are available. Weigh the cost of machining vs. the cost of a good crank. Also, be aware that your choice of bearing brand/type might not be available in all oversizes.

Nice job. It all looks great. I'm particularly interested in the harness work. I've also been researching a way to build new harnesses. Do you mind sharing the research on parts numbers and sources?

Re: Highest Mileage EJ22T Stroker Builds? (2.3x Liter)

Built motors in general. For a Subaru stroker, find a way to not use aftermarket forged pistons that require large clearances. OEM Hyperutectic pistons using OEM clearance specs combined with custom length rods (to keep quench correct) should do it. Of course, OEM pistons with OEM clearances means O...

Re: Highest Mileage EJ22T Stroker Builds? (2.3x Liter)

Clearances. Your clearances are dictated by your HP goals. 300ish HP can use basically factory clearances and get close to factory durability. As you raise your HP goals, you need to increase your clearances for the higher temperatures that will be encountered (expansion of parts). This causes exces...

Re: Highest Mileage EJ22T Stroker Builds? (2.3x Liter)

1. Zero miles. It's been on the engine stand for years. I used a phase 2 EJ25 crank with the 52mm journals, aftermarket forged non-turbo length phase 2 EJ25 rods (common before the EJ255/257 came out), custom forged pistons to mach my exact hardware choices and desired compression ratio. The block w...

If you resurface the heads enough to change compression you will likely need to address cam timing too.

Re: Stereo project, something new!

I'm using essentially the same thing in my SVX. Two things to look out for: 1. Lack of a volume control is a problem sometimes. Using the phones volume can be problematic - both ergonomically and functionally - especially when you turn it up when using the phone on other devices and reconnect to the...

Interesting. I have not run across that tidbit yet. Does the matching intake manifold use the old style 'circular motor' IAC valve or the newer PWM 'piston' style?

Re: Wrx heads

The cam gears do not interchange between the phase 1 and phase 2 DOHC heads. The timing pattern is not the same and the diameter of the mounting surface is different too. The shortblock is the easy part as it's pretty generic to the electrics and the crank sprockets interchange. Cam timing, IAC, and...

To add to the pool of knowledge.... '90, '91, '92 All have USDM fulls sets. '91, '93, '94 Have USDM supplementals. The '91 supplimental adds turbo info and '90 > '91 changes. I have managed to collect all the above. There may be more volumes out there that I haven't stumbled across. Another interest...

Re: (EJ22) 2 plugs vs. 3 plugs

If you swapped intake manifolds, you did what you needed to. The crank and cam sensors (and the knock sensor) don't use those connectors anyways. They connect at the rear of the motor directly to the firewall part of the harness.

Re: What 25 years looks like

I thought the second gen leggy was the worst! I have mixed feelings about the 2nd gen. I love them in GT form (especially a GT wagon), but prefer the first gen overall when not a GT. Also, I love the Outback in those years, but would prefer a (working) air suspension first gen if I had the choice. ...

Current OB is better than the 4th gen Legacy OBXT with an manual trans? Cant say i agree with you there. ;) ..... As a complete model lineup? Yes, as a "SUV/Crossover" it needed the size of the current car...which is still smaller than most other Crossovers. By the way, I hate the term crossover. A...

Re: Shift lock system not working properly, i need help

I've had this on my SVX. Many of the boxes on the SVX and Legacy function the same. Check your brake lights. The main input to the system is the brake pedal, and it uses the same power as the brake lights. On mine it was a slightly corroded connector that plugs into the inside fuse box. Just unplugg...
