I'd say if you don't hear any noises and don't notice any change in the engine's performance, then you probably got away with it. I'm guessing you're using an MBC, and not much of a fancy one. Unfortunately, boost spikes/creeps/etc. are the side effects of using Home Depot-style MBCs. I'm going to ...

Need advice on a boost spike!
Hi dudes, merry xmas to all! I didnt have such a fabulous xmas for my motor having spiked twice to 2 bar! when my setting was only 1.4bar thanks to a silicone hose attached to my turbo with a penchant for coming loose GRRRR My exhaust temps even went to 1000deg C so i'm really worried!!! Very anxiou...

Well, You have got to remember that psi is not some sort of universally transferable thing. 20psi on a 16g is different than 20psi on a 20g which is different than 20psi on Douglas' supercharger. It's about CFM's and not the actual pressure... pressure from different compressors will be different, ...

depends on elevation and fuel and such. I ran 19psi for a while and when I took the engine apart there were no signs of detonation. Some dirt got in the oil though and ruined a rod bearing. i see...well i'm at sea level and i always run 98 RON. i have a standalone ecu and usually my a/f runs pretty...

EJ22 build again! Mad as hell :( What boost to run??
Thank you guys for helping me out so much with previous ej22t tech stuff. UNFORTUNATELY................ It is an n/a EJ22! with some block guards. I only found out when i tore it down in the shop with a leaky head gasket. I'm really upset cos I was hoping for the reliability of the closed deck. Wors...

C32b is right, with a lower compression, you are going to receive more lag, especially on a 20g, but you went to a higher compression piston which is good. Now, even if the cr was the same say 8.0:1 which the wrx and turbo legacies both had stock, you are going to see less ft-lbs torque at a lower ...

I'd be worried of those pistons coming in contact with the valves maybe??? Like I said before, I really don't think you'd notice much of a spool time improvement by bumping your comp ratio to 8.5:1 its only a .5 difference, and unless you are building a race car, it wont matter much at all. You sho...

I don't think your compression is going to make that much a difference. I always believed the turbo legacy's had an 8:1 compression anyway for the older ones. hi, i was under the impression that compression being higher might allow spool up slightly quicker? ej22t standard is 8 but with wisecos mea...

I doubt you'd notice much, have you installed the heads yet? do you know the volume of them? the heads are on, unfortunately this is a hand me down from the previous owner but i do know for sure that its a bone stock ver 4 wrx head. so i'm guessing the head volume might be about 50cc? the wiseco pi...

You shouldnt have too much of a problem spooling it. It'll probably hit somewhere around 4.5k rpm in first gear without a launch. That's pretty similiar to mine. As for low end grunt. I have the EJ22t heads with reground cams from delta camshaft and the car has no lack of power at redline. In fact ...

Well if you plan on putting the turbo on despite what people say in this thread I'd say just hook it all up and run it, get some kind of datalogging system that will record your boost and rpm. Thats the only way to get a definate answer I think. If you want, here is a link for a TD06 compressor map...

you'll be fine doing what you want to do. Just make sure that someone who knows those heads well adjusts or helps you adjust the lash once you get the new cams. It will require new shims pretty much on every valve... thanks mate! i'm just hoping to get that 4800-7500 to some sweet torque with some ...

Which heads you have on there have everything to do with where you can rev to. The stock Ej22T heads really don't like to go above 7000+/-rpms. The reason for this has nothing to do with valves, but has to do with the fact that it uses HLA's to regulate valve lash. Much above 7000, the hla's can't ...

Dare I ask why you are looking at that turbo? The problem with that turbo in the 22t is that our 2.2 engine is meant for low end grunt, not top end ( as seen by the SOHC heads and their restrictions) So unless you plan on changing the heads, I would consider a turbo that spools sooner Hi, no worrie...

spooling up a td06 20g with a ej22t
would like to know if anyone here can help me with my examination of full boost charateristic of a td06 20g. i'm running an ej22t and i'll be pulling about 1.4 bar of boost. by my estimates i'll be full spooling at about 4.5-4.7k rpms. anyone can concur on my calculations? of course this is approxim...

Having a 2.0 head on a 2.2 block? I forgot how that affects your compression ratio, but you have to take that into account. High compression ratios and high boost are a bad idea. Things tend to go boom if you aren't real careful. I think the ej20 heads lower your compression. http://bbs.legacycentr...

Take everything I have to say with a grain of salt, but..... From what I can REMEMBER from reading posts about the EJ22T and it being used by other people like Xypher, the valves tend to float when reved that high, but you can put in some stiffer valve springs. I think with the stiffer valve spring...

safe revs for ej22t
hi, looking to know what is a safe limit to rev my ej22t to? going to fit some 256 deg cams and looking to rev to around 7500. Would it be too much to ask from this engine? do advise please.

EGT/Water temp & flowmap of a EJ22T with VF22
Hi guys, I'm running a VF22 ish turbo with an ej22t. ignition timing is on the conservative side with about 1.4 bar of boost. 7 heat range ngk plugs and 8.5:1 compression on forged pistons. I have an 04 sti top mount. Currently have a/f at around 11.8:1 for mid end power and about 11.0 nearer the rp...
