Re: What happens to my ecu?!?!?!
Your ECU has learned how to compensate for your engine mods. When you reset the ECU it forgets everything it has learned and tries to use the base maps, which are calibrated for an unmodified engine. So it runs like a dog until it learns the correct fuel and timing trims for your engine. Give it som...

b3lha Can you provide me with some sort of document to prove the SVX in other regions had the VTD differential? I have been arguing this for years and the idiots on Nasioc can't accept that the impreza was NOT the first car with the better center differential. I originally found this out because so...

Can you please tell me which car the FF TCU came from? FF is the same TCU code as a Euro/Aussie SVX. This car has the VTD transmission rather than the ACT4 transmission normally found on US models. It would be very interesting to know if you have found a US model with the VTD box. It is far superior...

I just finished this mod, works great. I cut the wire from pin 6 and used spade connectors to wire in a switch. So at the flick of a switch the manual button is either stock or can be used as the power override button. With the connectors I can disconnect the switch and connect the pin 6 wire and i...

Couple of more bits of info I forgot to add to the above post: Pin 4 on my B46 connector on the TCU was already filled with a teal blue wire. I cut it and wired up the 'Power' switch from there. Anyone else had this pin occupied on their connector already? CEL was on for knock sensor, after cutting...

On my website you can find stock ROM dumps of the 1995 WRX STi (JECS Z4 ECU) and WRX STi type RA (JECS Z5 ECU). Maybe the maps in them will be useful to you.

Found a new one: http://ssm.nextfoods.jp I don't read Japanese, but there seems to be two products: WinSSM - a datalogging program that overlays the parameters onto a feed from a USB video camera. Free to download http://ssm.nextfoods.jp/index.php?DemoMovie%2F7 G-SSM - a hardware datalogger, similar...

Evoscan is the best one by a long way. Kevin Franks' program is great for free, but it doesn't work properly through USB. That is why you are seeing zeros every other pass. As already mentioned, the best speed you can get is between 5 and 10 parameters per second. This is a limitation of the ECU, no...

The absolute best way to find the parameters is by eavesdropping on a proper Subaru Select Monitor. If you don't have one then the next best way is by reading the program code, like I'm doing for the EJ15. But that is difficult and very time consuming. I was lucky with my Legacy. The EJ22 and EG33 E...

So on some of the earlier Legacies, it won't engage power mode if you dig into the gas? It does engage if you floor the gas. But there is no built in facility for an override switch. If somebody with an earlier car desperately wanted to do this mod then the best thing to do would be to fit a later ...

I just wanted to update this old thread with some new information. Somebody sent me a memory dump of a 1990 USDM Legacy TCU. It doesn't have the facility for a power mode switch in the program. The feature was probably introduced in later years. At present, the best way to tell whether this trick wi...

What type of ECU are you using?
I'm currently working to find the parameters for a Hitachi "Z1" ecu, used by the Impreza CS EJ15. If your ECU is also Hitachi then you may find some helpful information in my thread at http://www.subiesmart.com/forum

The 4EAT in older SVXes tends to self-destruct every 50-80 K miles. One of my SVXes is now on its third gearbox. Later models are better. I think it's not such a problem in a Legacy because it is lighter and has less torque. You can extend the life by adding an extra cooler and changing the fluid of...

Depends what ECU your car has. Some Legacies between 1992 and 1996 use the same JECS OBD1 ECU as the SVX. But I think it's only the non-turbo cars, not the Turbo versions. I have been doing some work on my SVX ECU and I know where the rev limit is stored and how to reprogram it. If you have the same...

It does sound like a TPS fault. It's a black plastic box attached to the throttle body at the back of the inlet manifold. It's just a fancy type of potentiometer.
