91 and 92 Legacy in junk yard
Just saw on the fresh inventory list of a local Pick A Part they had a 91 in there...gave them a call to see if they could tell me the type (if it was an L or SS) they said they couldn't, but that they also had a 92 in their lot as well...want to head there this weekend as I'm hearing all over the r...

F You Knock Sensor
What a pain in the dick it was replacing it....two extensions, a magnet and high frustration level...no wonder Haynes suggests the intake manifold be removed for replacement...but glad I did it, the old one had an 1/8 inch crack surrounding the part that bolts to the engine...although my check engin...

Re: Changing Pads and Rotors
Evo do you have any suggestions for good manuals to use for repairs. I have read that specific service manuals that the dealership maintenance personnel use are as good as it gets, but don't know if those types of manuals would be to specific rather than helpful.

Re: Changing Pads and Rotors
I didn't think it would matter at all. To quote it exactly so I don't look like an idiot: under the heading of Knock Sensor "The knock sensor is threaded into the engine block, when it is removed, the coolant will drain from the engine block. Drain the cooling system. Place a drain pan under th...

Re: Changing Pads and Rotors
No I didn't touch the star nuts, and at first I did have the parking brake on but once I started having an issue removing the wheel I disengaged it because I thought that might be the issue, which it wasn't. Thanks for the heads up on the PB Blaster. Quick question, I know this is the wrong thread f...

Re: Changing Pads and Rotors
Brake and rotor change went very well, didn't know rotors were so simple to swap out. One thing that is puzzling me, it took a crap ton of WD-40 on the lug nut bolts and hub itself to get the rear passenger tire off. The rotor was stuck on there pretty good as well, took some serious pulling to get ...

Changing Pads and Rotors
Hey fellas, this forum has been a tremendous amount of help for me in the past. I was never a car guy, hesitant on changing my own oil in fear that I would screw something up. Upon purchasing my 91 Legacy Turbo 3 years ago, I have learned how to change the timing belt, got it to pass emissions, remo...

Been a rough couple of days. Took the car to a auto hobby shop put it on a lift, and began cleaning the hell out of the engine valve covers exhaust...there was dried up and wet oil everywhere under there. After an hour and a half of cleaning I started it up and checked for a leak, which there was no...

1991 Subaru Legacy Turbo 2.2L I just replaced my timing belt, serp belts, crankshaft seal, flushed my coolant system, replaced upper and lower radiator hoses, and changed spark plugs. I did my oil change last night and took it to work today (about 15 miles away). When I got to work I saw smoke comin...

Just so I know for when I rotate my cams to get them aligned, cylinder 1 and cylinder 3 are in sync with each other and 2 and 4 are aligned with each other right? That way when I rotate my cams I can feel down in the cylinders I can know which 2 r supposed to be up and which 2 r supposed to be down.

Alright took off all applicable parts, undid the timing cover and took pictures of everything. When I get off of work I'll upload them just to show how far off my timing is off. As far as the arrow on the crankshaft, originally I put that to where it was lined up with the alignment mark, but as far ...

LEGACY777 question: So even though I moved the camshafts and crankshaft idependently with the timing belt off, my timing will be good as long as I put both cams and crank timing marks adjacent to the markings on the engine themself, put the timing belt on (which has the markings on it to line it up ...

1991 Subaru Legacy Turbo 16 valve 2.2 L engine Okay so this past weekend I spent the day changing out both my serp belts and my timing belt. I'm a very new mechanic when it comes to working on cars so I was basically in my Hayne's manual the whole time when it came to replacing my timing belt. I cou...
