Re: 3 Quick questions 2.2 into 2.5 automatic
Thanks for the help. The flex paint was different the 2.5 one was a little bigger in diameter so I switched that over to the 2.2 The ECU's had the same exact part # so I'm gonna go ahead and use the 2.5 one but I kept the 2.2 one just in case. I was referring to the ground wire that bolts onto the m...

3 Quick questions 2.2 into 2.5 automatic
Took a 2.2 out of a 95 legacy auto and am putting it in a 96 outback auto. 1. Do I need to switch over the 2.5 flex plate to my 2.2 ? I assume I use the 2.5 tourqe converter that matches the 2.5 tranny. 2. The 2.2 doesn't have the ground connection near the coil do I need that ? 3. Ok to use the 2.5...

Rear springs -top cover
Car didn't pass inspection today (once again) this time it was the top of the rear springs/struts that was rusted. These are the "covers" to the springs not the strut mount that goes into the body. I just spent a good amount of time and $$ replacing the rear subframe unit and put in new bu...

Re: Stubborn rear subframe bolt
Thanks Jerry, Sub frame is already off with a 2 inch piece of it still attached to that 1 darn bolt :) Thanks for the grinding idea. My only conerns is of course the bolt that's stuck is right next to the gas tank so I'm a bit scared about all of the sparks flying around. Maybe I get the wool fir bl...

Stubborn rear subframe bolt
Got 3 of the 4 rear subframe mounting bolt out - the ones that mount the subrame up onto the chassis. I can't get the 4th one to move. have basically rounded off the head and a bolt extractor socket won't even bite into it. Short of drilling it out with an easy out - anybody got any advice ? thanks

rear brake line connection
The steel rear brake line from the rear wheel (right rear seems to head up into the body in front of the gas tank.
Where is the connection exactly. I need to replace the steel line from the rubber hose forward and don't want to simply make a patch piece.
thanks

Contol arm removal help
I've removed the control arms on the rear from the sub frame and have removed the nuts on the foot long bolt which holds the two to the hub/wheel on each side. What I can't seem to do is remove the contol arms on this side. Both ends seem to have the bushings "frozen onto the bolt. Anybody have...

Swapping out rear subframe
Finally found a rear cross member / subframe to swap my rusted one for. Question - it looks like if I just unhook the rear exhaust and the 4 inboard ends of the control arms and 2 differential bolts can I remove it after dropping the 4 upper bolts and supporting the differential ? I really don't wan...

rotating the camshafts to unload
Hmmm - who is right fishbone or deucer ?
I do think I'm supposed to rotate the top cam counterclockwise and the bottom one clockwise to unload the left (drivers side) cams from what I've read elsewhere.

Okay I understand locking the cams to remove and replace the belt. But since I'm doing a head job, once the belt comes off I need to remove the locking tool to take the cam sprocket off. Won't the camshaft turn when I do that anyways ? At least the upper left one (intake) What am I missin here ? tha...

crank pulley little hole size/ cam sprocket removal
Am replacing the head gaskets in a '97 2.5 outback 2 questions: 1. What size bolts fit the little holes in the crank pulley so I can make a holder tool to make it easier to remove the crank pulley nut. 2.Once my timing belt marks are all lined up do I really need to make something to hold the camsha...

Oil in coolant
Have a head gasket leak which I'm going to fix. Have taken the radiator out and have found lots of oil in the coolant and hoses so I assume it's also all through the radiator too.
What's the best way to clean the oil out of the radiator ? I'll get new hoese.

fix the head gasket
Yep, I might just try that first. The 96 has 215K miles and the 95 has only 125K. but with a rusted rear subframe/cross member. The 96 body is great and I like the higher stance. I've done head gaskets before on alfas by just pulling the head. Is this the best course or should I pull the whole engin...
