My transmission finally bit the bullet. Pinion bearings have busted and the transfer case is full of ATF fluid. I can hear bearings bouncing around, and the speedo has stopped working. I guess the gear got taken out. Amazingly it still "goes" but what a racket, and its pretty jerky.

No no...I'm not going to go AWD. Like I said I can't get the parts off the junkyard leggy because of horrible rust and lack of muscle.

No. :( The underside is rusted to hell. Bolts wouldn't budge. The glass was caved in and resting on the dash, we had no idea how to get the dash out. We even tried bashing it out but the hammer just bounced off the plastic. It was Impossible to get back at those 4 bolts that hold the brake/clutch ...

My FWD automatic does the same thing, but much worse.

Check the gear oil in the front diff for metal.

I ran straight pipe for awhile. Never got pulled over, but then I live in a area with many Harleys, biker bars, and Hicks with big trucks and no muffler either.

You need an entire, running NA Legacy? I live in the Tampa area but my front diff bearings are shot. My car is half way taken apart but I'm flat broke. If you just need a piece of the car I could mail that but thats it. Sorry.

Just an idea for how to find the leak, take your car to a drive thru carwash and then look all around for a drip while the machine washes your car. Thats what I did to find my leak, anyway.

UGH, that poor leggy...

I had the exact same idle trouble with my Buick.

Check your voltage level at idle with a multimeter. If your alternator is only breaking even, the battery can get weak and things get a little crazy.

Also it wouldn't hurt to make sure all your vacuum lines are clamped on and not just pressed on ...
