Intake hose.....

Post by wallgood358 »

I am attempting to find a part of my intake that i cannot seem to locate in any oem places.I noticed that one of the rubber intake snorkels was torn when i was changing my air filter today, which i think might explain a sudden loss in power thru vaccum leak. It is the last one in from the air box that goes into the manifold. There is the elbow that goes from the MAF to the big plastic vaccum box, then from there to the manifold. I need the vaccum box to manifold snorkel. Can anyone help me out?

I pressume you're NA and not turbo?

I don't know the part number but I have a spare NA intake tract that I'd be willing to let go for cheap + shipping. If the piece in question is the green 'highlighted' piece - http://filebox.vt.edu/users/lskidmor/pe ... intake.JPG and you're interested let me know. Otherwise I'm not quite sure which piece you need.

It is a turbo car. Here are a couple of pics of what i am in need of

There is a tear in the bottom part of the ribs and i think that may be part of why my performance has taken a drastic drop.

if the scooby dosent come through go to your local subaru parts place and they will have it. it will cost a lil more then getting it used but you cant beat quality oem parts

I believe Subaru calls it an Air Inlet Duct. I don't have a part number for it, though.

Just remember: You're about to replace a used part with a used part.

Those elbows crack because they're made of plastic and next to a stupidly hot piece of metal. A used one will have been used under the same circumstances.

Its worth it to go to a new piece, or an aftermarket alternative (silicon hose elbow)

They are rubber and after heat exposure and years of driving they turn into what seems like plastic.

Search in the parts shed for "turbo inlet", more than one of us has them in good condition for less than new at the dealership but you are correct in that their are no aftermarket sources for this.

Also to anyone messing with this on your car: The heat gun is your friend, heat this all up before you yank on anything to help prevent cracking a marginal piece.

I cracked mine right under where the clamp covers. I just cleaned it all up and covered it with some high temp gastket silicone. works fine!

Ok new question to this old post. Since it seems to be very difficut to find a good turbo inlet, can i use this pipe i found on ebay with some vaccum hose modification and the removal of that big black oval piece that the inlet attaches to. yea i think the diameters of the openings for the turbo are different. I would think the easiest thing to do would be to get a reducing 90 degree sylicon elbow from like samco and move the vacuum lines upstream if you cant find a new one. Still quite a bit of work though.
