turbo vs NA exhaust...

Post by spdracr »

I know the header/up-pipe/down-pipe are different but what about after the cats? Are they the same as far as mounting goes. The turbo's have a 2.5" pipe so i'm thinking it would be an upgrade over my stock "L" exhaust, but I could also be wrong which is why i'm asking.

thanks

The mounts and everything should be the same.

you have a 92 NA?

you can't use the turbo exhaust, and they're both 2.25", you need the turbocharger plus a bunch of other supporting mods.

Nick is correct. The N/A's have a 2 inch exhaust.

If I were you, I would just pick up a Stock STi catback. As previously stated it looks and sounds great!

Definately not a direct fit...

Honestly, the most gains exhaust wise would be to go full cat delete and a straight through muffler...

damn any thing that is more of a direct fit? maybe a turbo exhaust would be best, from the cat back at least.. 2.25 vs 2.0 and they are pretty cheap...

Any particular reasons you want to upgrade the entire exhaust system on your L?

Unless you have other supporting mods, I don't think you'll see any real performance gains. I'm not saying don't do it, but I'd save a few bucks and just get a nice muffler with a nice sound.

I just cut my stock muffler out, saved the 2 end hangers, and welded on a Summit turbo cheapo muffler. It actually sounds pretty good and has a decent rumble. Not as deep as my greddy on my other subaru, but good nonetheless. The muffler itself was only 15 bucks, so you might want to start there.

well, my future plans are for a header and i was looking for a more free flowing system. trying to squeeze everything i can from the 2.2, i was hoping there was something easy that i could swap over. still learning these 1st gens..

How loud is the STi catback on the EJ22?

I might go this route on my Forester, just for a nicer looking exhaust, and the design of the Forester exhaust is dumb. It droops down in the middle after the cat for no reason whatsoever. I scrape it all of the time when offroading.

It will be very similar to stock in terms of DB output. People do it for the throaty rumble!

I also used a cheap-o ($15-20) summit racing 3" turbo muffler when my 3" TBE was made. I must admitt that I did not expect much from the muffler other than a stealth appearance, but it sounds very good, & the exhaust system as a whole made an obvious difference in performance.
