What do you feed your car? (oil and gas)

Post by dscoobydoo »

Ok, being the car fanatic I am, I read up on the oils, and the RON ratings ( octane) and I like to be nice to my cars.

For a generic Motor oil, I have tended to use Castol GTX in 10/30. I used to go 10/40, but after some more reading, I will no longer do that.

If I had the money, I would go Amsoil or Mobil 1 10/30.

As for Gas, I always Use the 92/93 and I throw the octane crap in most often.

And fuel injector cleaner every other oil change.

I also change oil every 3000 (give or take 50 miles) with no exception.

So, does anyone go above and beyond?

Why don't you try the 10-40 oils ?

I personnaly use Motul 8100 5w40 winter (but should try the 0w50)

For gas, only 91 available here so.. no choice :|

Cheapest 10w30, cause I tend to change it every thousand miles, like my engines.

As for gas, I use 92 octane with a gallon or two of tolulene, THAT is octane booster (114) , dont bother with that off the shelf crap.

Mobil 1 and no detectable internal wear after nearly 250k mi. However, I should have used something to clean the conbustion chambers out more as the carbon build up likely melted my valve.

Running 8:1 compression N/A I use the cheapest gas there is.

I've gone 83 miles on 1/2 tank so far :) 8:1 compression and no hooked up O2 sensor. I'm probably beating Steve!

If you are interested in gearbox too, I am using Redline 75W90NS synthetic. It's great.

I use valvoline Max life and change it every 3000 miles.

As for gas, I usually use the cheapesy stuff I can find. I think I may be running rich, and I get crap gas milage. Every now and then, I'll run through some lucas oil fuel additive.

Read this: http://www.micapeak.com/info/oiled.html

This is why you should not use 10/40

The plugs I do in every car every 5000. SeaFoam would be every 10-15000, depending on my laziness.

I change oil every 3000 (usually a hair over) and use Havoline Max Life 10W40. As for gas, I'm just using regular 87 unleaded. It works just fine for my NA. I also try to change the air filter every 6-7 too. Plugs...I'm lazy and don't get to very often.

Valvoline dino oil 10W40 every 3000 miles in both cars.

89 octane in the Legacy, 93 octane in the XT, wherever it's cheapest.

The cheapest, junkiest dino gear oil I can possibly find in both my gearboxes. Redline 75W90 in my diffs.

Redline 5W30 engine oil, 75W90NS for the diffs and Redline injector cleaner or BG 44K injector cleaner for the majors. Mostly Costco 92 gas, but she likes Chevron the best.

Motul synthetics in front and rear diffs and in the recently re- built 4eat.

Pennzoil 10/30 in the engine every 3 months.

With over 170000 miles no need to add oil between the changes :-)

+1 to that...

I use Mobil 1, and change it about every 5-6,000 miles. It usually comes out brown still, as my motor does not have a whole lot of blowby.

Tranny has GL4 + 1 qt of MT90

I use Chevron or 76 92 octane...never a ping
