I lucked out and White Bear Subaru had the part I needed (#737411752- the 'spark-plug'-like thingy that threads into the from diff off the speedo cable) to fix the problem. They 'matched the 'old'(?) price and I got it for about $12 (they orig. wanted $18.89!?) Everythings back together and I've got...

Thanks for the feedback. I got the assy. apart- it was the typical problem mentioned with the bushing siezing up and snapping off the flat-drive that 'plugs' into the front diff. The dealer didn't have the part in stock (but had the cable)- actually their parts diagram showed a longer tube-like affa...

Now I gotta figure out if the speedo failed (no odometer or cruise control either), or the 'good 'ol transmission shop' managed to leave the cable pickup loose eno...

4EAT Transmission Experiences

First of all, this is a little long, but very 'educational'. Many of you may recall that I bought a '94 Subaru Touring (Turbo) Wagon from Chicago on an eBay auction last April. Disappointingly, after I got it home, I found several conditions needing upgrade/repair, including 2 front axles (3 of 4 bo...

Keep up the good work for our country and be careful.

Having had an '81, '85 and '87 prior to my Legacy Sport Sedan, boy, does that bring back memories! (If you didn't know about 'screwing the pistons back' on the older Subaru's, it was a lot of 'fun'.)

The Legacy's just push back in. I've usually used a 'C'-clamp to do it.

Sticky Wastegate?

I've started noticing a problem with my '94 Turbo Touring Wagon lately. On occasion I will hear a 'whooshing' sound upon the start of an 'acceleration run' and a loss of power. If I briefly back off on the throttle, it sometimes 'resets' and I get full boost/power. It seemed to me to be a sticky was...

Already checked out the pressures- everything's OK. If you jumper the compressor clutch 'ON', the A/C blows nice and cold. The problem is some kind of interlock/thermostat/switch/ etc. that is intermittently turning 'OFF' when it should be 'ON'. Something is marginally failed.

It intermittently turns on oand off. Normally, Subaru compressors are 'on' most all the time with 'off' periods only to defrost, etc. When the compressor does choose to come 'on', the fans start, too. A tech I knew said their is a sensor with a long tube(?) that snakes into the evaporator that he ex...

'Search' Function Not Working(!?)

I tried doing a search to see if I could find a previous post regarding my A/C electrical issues, but the search returned nothing. I wasn't sure if there wasn't anything related, so I tried searching for 'Legacy' and also 'turbo'- still nothing returned.

What's up with that?!

Any help yet?

There are a number of members from the UK with SVX's. Visit the SVX forum noted earlier to review- in fact there is a EU section.

The engine is a sweet dual overhead cam 3.3L-6 - one more bank than what the Legacy's have (2.2L).

Welcome aboard, Alcyone! I believe I've seen you on the SVX forum, too.

Real sweet, clean wagon; nice wheels!

I've got the best of 'both worlds', an SVX and a turbo wagon.

See 'ya around.

A/C Troubleshooting (It's getting HOT out!)

The A/C in my '94 Touring Wagon is operating intermittently. A tech I know said he saw a similar problem with a thermostat that snakes into the evaporator(?), so that may be it, but I'd like to research the system. I already know there are no leaks and I have a proper working freon system- it is som...

I see that there are many more of us now that have both Legacy's and SVX's. I've owned my SVX since 1998 w/ only 27,000 mi's on it and now it's up to about 134,000. My problems have been minimal- mostly maintenance issues. My 'ride' previous to that was a '91 Legacy SS, so when I needed a 'utility' ...

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure if I'm ready to tackle rebuilding a 4EAT yet, (I have done some clutch work and some engine work in past years).

I may have a handle on a used transmission, but it is in Canada and the freight cost is outrageous. I may tackle the 'swap' myself.

Need a 4EAT or Transfer Clutch Assy.

It looks like I need to either replace or rebuild the auto transmission in my '94 Touring Wagon (turbo). I've got no RWD and the transmission is shifting less than 'perfect'. The question is- do I just repair/replace the AWD transfer clutch assy. or do I go for a whole trans 'swap'. Anyone out there...

After several attempts at using aftermarket brake pads (and then swearing I'd never do it again!) I've resolved myself to ONLY use the Subaru OEM brake pads. (I've driven Subaru's since '81) I don't know what they do to them or what material they use, but they DON'T squeal! They may cost a little(?)...

Double-check your gas-line clamps. I've had a number of occurances over the years where the clamps on the fuel filter have loosened slightly letting the high-pressure gas from the injection system leak slightly. It seems more prevalent in cold weather (so this time of year would be unusual).
