Re: Is this Timing belt kit overkill??
Do i really need all this stuff listed in this kit? $266 seems a bit much for a TB kit for this car no? Where does everyone get their TB kits from?? TIA http://catalog.autohausaz.com/autohausaz/detailw.jsp?sid=p4izns55jwwphj454kdavuel&partner=autohausaz&year=1993&make=SU&model=LEG--...

I replaced/refilled my HLA's and the noise just came back a month or two later. I replaced a few and serviced the others I could sacrifice, the damn things are like $20 a piece. I found what really got rid of the tick was running diesel grade oil in the engine. I used Valvoline super blue or someth...

Re: Noisy Lifters Just An Annoyance?
My lifters have started their "ticking" until the engine is warm. It's annoying but is it a problem beyond that? Just wanted to make sure there were no long-term issues. Thanks. If you haven't already, try using synthetic oil at your next oil change. You could also use a not-too-strong en...

A lot of what this guy did to his 2.2 n/a is worthwhile. He also talks about the PP6 a tiny bit.
Keep in mind that he has the 2nd generation single-port exhaust 2.2 which is different than your dual-port exhaust.

Re: 2.2 Turbo Crankshaft part number...
My Subaru dealership in town has lied to me on several occasions....haha They say that my crank is no longer being made. I need the part number and also need to know whether or not they still sell a crankshaft, main bearings and rod bearings for my 91 SS. I know the crank has to be a forged one? Ca...

Hey Dude, I've never heard of one and even if one did exist, at best it would give you an extra two or three horsepower. Totally worthless and not worth the effort in my opinion. You are much better off installing an aftermarket exhaust and possibly intake. Even with that you might see an increase o...

Simple Green. Works very well and quickly and its enviro friendly for all you mamas boys out there:). Just use your head and you will be fine. Avoid open or unsealed connections, intake, headlights, and that sort of thing. Pretty much anything from the underside is fair game. Big 2nd on the Simple ...

Re: Cleaning engine (to find oil leak)
What is the best way to clean up the oil crud on the engine in my 92 Legacy NA? I'm trying to find a moderate oil leak. I lose about half a quart every 200 miles, and it's clearly destined for my driveway. I've replaced the timing belt and water pump, and while all the front was off, I inspected th...

In one case, I had a bad #3 fuel injector that would not fire at idle but would be fine when giving it some throttle.... weird but that's what happened. The symptoms were a rough idle; the engine was actually only running on three cylinders at idle. After turning off the engine the exhaust smelled l...

I'm not so sure what type of rubber Subaru uses. Viton is simply a type of rubber. There are different types of viton....so without knowing exactly what it is....it'd be hard to say whether it's better. I will however refer you to this thread for some thoughts by myself and others on OEM vs afterma...

Confused about Viton synthetic rubber vs. Subaru OEM rubber
Hey Dudes, I'm confused about the various manufacturers that offer seals such as cam, crank, and valve stem, seals in viton synthetic rubber compound. I've always gone with Subaru OEM but is this material really better as many sites claim? The Achilles' Heel of the Subaru engine has always been the ...

You can, apparently, drop in a phase 1 DOHC EJ25 complete. You'll have to make minor modifications to the wiring harness and close off the EGR valve on the ej25 throttle body since the ej22 you have doesn't use it. It's going to give you almost as much power as a standard ej25 since the ej22 ecu sti...

......... i think the noise is unavoidable however. If the engine is dirty and/or low on oil then you will hear the lifters because they're not able to pump themselves up because clean oil isn't able to flow into them as designed. Lifters do go bad. On my current rebuild I found one lifter that is ...

Is there any specific reason you want to check the block for cracks? I would tend to agree with the shop, that it is very rare for the block to have cracks. As for do-it-yourself tests. You can try and get some UV dye penetrant or similar. Here's something a quick google search showed up. http://ww...

Machine shops say they can't check my block for cracks...?
So I've gone to several engine machine shops and they all tell me they only check for cracks in the heads and aren't set up to do so for a short block. They all say the same thing, 'it's VERY rare that a block will have cracks." So I then say, "but can you guarantee that it doesn't?" ...
