Does your vehicle have cruise control?
My old Chevy pickup used to make a hiss when I'd press the brake and it wound up being a cracked vacuum switch housing on the cruise control system. The switch was up in the pedal box area and actuated when you pressed the brake to disengage the cruise control.

I'm on the hunt for an ECU and wiring to make my '94 EJ22 donor engine work. What are they worth (used) and anyone got one they're wanting to sell?

Just wanted to introduce myself. Been into the Subies for a few years now, got an '82 Brat and my wife drives a '00 Outback with the 5 speed.
Anyways, I've just picked up an EJ22 that I'm planning on shovelling into the Brat. I'll be digging around here for more info on the engines etc.!
