Re: Starting problems 1993 Legacy L

Well, less than $10 and a couple of pieces of copper later and I seem to be in business..the car starts and no clicking. However, I am still getting an occasional buzzing-type noise from the cluster. Starter relay? Something else?

Starting problems 1993 Legacy L

I've been having trouble starting my 93 AWD L 5-speed for a while. Basically, I when I turn the key, I'll just get a click. Sometimes it takes 5 tries to start, others 20, it seems to be harder to start when the car is cold. Once I've been driving it for a while, it typically starts first try. Also,...

Trans swap pedal question

I know this is a gen 1 forum, but I'm looking to find out what pedal assemblies will work to swap into my 98 Legacy GT wagon that is getting a manual trans swapped into it in place of the auto. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Doing a trans. swap, best bushings to use?

Hi, my friend is going to swap out the auto in my '98 LGT and swap in a 5mt for me, I figured that before I put the new trans in, I might as well put new bushings into it etc. Any thoughts on the best bushings to use and a source for purchasing? Super excited about this project, the end result shoul...

Re: Seatbelt troubleshooting

I think you've got me mixed up with someone else, I've not done the computer swap, and it doesn't seem like that that's the likely cause if the motor is trying to tension the belt every time the door closes. Anyone else have experience with the cable etc.?

Re: Seatbelt troubleshooting

So, I finally pulled the trim off from the floor up to about shoulder height revealing the motor and some of the other stuff. When the car is running and the door closes, the motor tries to pull the belt back and it does tension it and take out what little slack there is in the cable, but the actual...

Re: Seatbelt troubleshooting

I might be into those parts, thanks for the offer. What's the best way to determine whether the problem lies with the motor or the wire? Anyone have a pdf of this part of the manual?

Doubt I'll be running a turbo, so that's not really a concern. I'm hoping to use the OB trans, what would be my best option for getting the MPG up?

Taller 5th gear possible?

Looking at swapping a manual trans from a '97 OB into a '98 legacy GT, but the OB trans has a different 5th gear than the the GT, ,y friend who will be helping me seems to think it could result in lower MPG, any insights on how much of a difference this might make? Also, is it possible to swap in a ...

WRX motor in an Outback.....?

I know its gen 2, but I'm pretty comfortable in this forum, so help if you can...Just bought a 97 OB 5sp manual with likely bottom end damage to the engine. There happens to be a WRX motor and trans available locally for a pretty good price right now. What would be the complete list of parts I'd nee...

Well, I tried the allen wrench trick to no avail, the motor seems frozen, and I could not get it to budge an inch. Am I correct in suspecting the motor to be the culprit, and what is involved in replacement?

It was not under tension when it froze. I'll try to look around at the wiring either when it warms up around here, or when I have access to a garage. How exactly do you adjust it with the allen wrench?

Seatbelt troubleshooting

So, my driver side belt quit working recently. It froze once for a second, and then worked again for a number of months. It has now been frozen in the down position, and I just don't feel safe driving it anymore. Where should I begin with the troubleshooting process? Are problems such as this typica...

Ahh Michigan, no emissions testing here. Now to get the thing off. Honestly, I'd rather keep it stock if I could find replacement parts, but I'm not down to spend the same money I spent on the entire car for some exhaust work.

N/A exhaust resonator/cat question

Hi, I'm having some noise in the rear area of my exhaust and was wondering if the thing closer to the engine from the muffler was a catalytic converter or just a resonator? Can it be deleted and simply replaced with straight pipe? Would this have legal ramifications, and would it effect performance?...

What the hell is wrong with my heater?

So, I'm having quite the annoying problem with my blower motor; I can hear it run, the on/off switch works as do all four speeds, but there is no air blowing out. It had been working intermittently, but now seems to work almost never. Also, there is an occasional clicking from a relay under the dash...

EJ22T into a n/a 5-sp wagon questions..

I've poked around a bit regarding the possibility of doing this swap, and look to have a shot at a turbo wagon with a blown trans. I'm considering just pulling the motor and putting it in my '93 N/A wagon with the stock 5-sp trans. I realize that the turbo 5-sp was a beefier model to deal with the i...

Well, after reading the description of what the button does, I might be more confused, I'll have to call the guy again to get some info. Suppose he is talking about actually manually shifting it, what does that likely mean?

I'm not entirely clear, he made it sound like with the manual button pushed, it worked, but in "sport" mode it did not. I was kind of thinking along the same lines as you, I asked if it was drivable on the highway, and he said yes. I'll look at the other thread to try and learn some more.

Turbo auto trans questions...

Might look at a 94 turbo wagon for $800, supposedly, the trans works in manual shift mode, but not regular mode. Any thoughts on likely causes of this issue and what it might take money-wise to fix it? I kind of want to buy it just for the motor and parts, but am interested in keeping it on the road...
