Re: Standalone for E85
You are not going to find a "best" aftermarket ECU. Well, you can, but spending $5k on one of the two (MoTeC or Pectel) is out of reach and impractical for most people. All of the major aftermarket ECU's work, and can work well depending on your application. The key words are your applicat...

How is the glare off the windsheild with that gauge placement? My previous setup was pretty bad and I couldn't dim the gauges.

Re: Internal errosion/pitting on downpipes
Interesting find Josh.
I've noticed a difference in color on the outside of the downpipe in that area in the past and wondered if something like that was happening.
Better grades of stainless steel, like 321 or Inconel would probably alleviate that but be rather expensive.

Re: P&P Turbo
The long and short of porting and polishing the inlets and outlets of a turbo is that you are trying to reduce any restriction in those areas. The restriction is going to be small when you look at the actual speed of the air/exhaust flowing in and out of those areas. At less then the speed of sound,...
Re: P&P Turbo
"Porting" and polishing a turbocharger does not get around the fact that the compressor and turbine wheels flow a finite amount of air. Spend your money elsewhere.

Re: AAMCO Power Purge
I wouldn't go for a machine flush, since it forces fluid through the transmission. However, merely dropping the pan and trying to drain it that way is a waste of time. Pull the cooler lines, and let the transmission drain itself into a bucket while it takes in fluid on it's own. You won't push seals...

And I understand the efficency of turbos that was not my question. I do not have the money for a bigger turbo right now. I understand I will make more power on less boost with a bigger turbo. My question was what kind of power can I make with the td04. I simply said 17 pounds because I was not EXAC...

One rally event turned them into paper weights in my experience. I would stay far away from Ksports. The one person who chimes in says they had to be rebuilt under warranty. That should be a little bit of a clue as to their quality.

Re: Compression ratio
It took me 19 seconds to find the map via google images. From the looks of the map, the max pressure ratio you would want to run is 2.2, meaning 17.5 psi BEFORE losses such as intercoolers and other plumbing. Considering what intercoolers most people here run, I would chop 2 psi off of that. Basical...

Re: What brand rotors or what plating recommended
I've been thinking about Cryo-Stop rotors from Centric when my RacingBrake stuff is toast in the near future. I've had great luck with Centric rotors on other cars.
Otherwise, a ton of local guys use Diversified Cryogenics, a local company.

Re: 5x114 to 5x100
Filling in the old holes on the STi BBS would be a bad idea unless you plan on getting the wheels heat treated, which would be quite expensive. Welding on an aluminum alloy anneals the material and you lose a lot of its strength. Even powder coating wheels at too high of a temperature can cause prob...

Re: output shaft bearing/rear drive shaft/center bearing
The stiff spots in the u-joints is quite common and most likely due to the limited angle the driveshaft sees in normal operation. During normal use, those spots in the u-joints' travel would not be used.

I'm surprised they didn't see a problem before you took delivery of the car. The car needs to be ran to burp the cooling system.

Awesome. Thanks for the replies!! I'm glad to hear other people echo the thoughts on the EGT readings. It's mounted halfway up the up-pipe so I would think it should be in 'cleanish' flow but it's hard to say. I may have found a spot with a small vortici or stagnation. Because I don't have them at ...

Re: Classic "How are my AFR's", log plots included
I think Josh pretty much nailed most things that I would say. However, I question your need to be that rich at 2-3 psi. AFR should taper down as torque increases, peaking (or should I say valleying?) at peak torque. You can often pull a little fuel north of peak torque as you near redline. This is b...

Hi guys, Sorry about being on the DL for quite a while. Between a new job, a really cold winter, and a bad attitude about the whole car world in general, I've been laying low. Re: Notice less power on warm days?
Find me a fuel system in a higher horsepower car that uses a returnless system. There are none. How about every LS-powered GM vehicle ever built, including the ZR1? Or the Ford SVT Cobras and GT500s, or Chrysler's Hemis and Viper? ;-) Although it's really done to keep the fuel vapor and resultant e...

Re: Notice less power on warm days?
General rule of thumb, every 10 degree increase in intake temps = 1% loss in total horsepower. Every 10 degree decrease in intake temps = 1% gain in total power. This applies to NA and Forced induction. Basically, a 200hp engine at 50 degress will make about 210hp at 0 degrees and 190hp at 100 degr...
