Re: Jessekrs123's 1993 Subaru Legacy L EG33 Swap
I didn't have to heat cure crackle paint. I forget now, but I think it's a matter of doing coats in a certain manner. I've got the red VHT on my intake (and valve covers, sort of, as the paint peeled off. I think oil so permeated the alloy over the years that no regular cleaning with brake cleaner a...

You don't have to buy reconditioner for the headlights. You can polish them with almost anything after wet sanding them. I used 600, then 1500, then plastic polish, but I've heard of people even polishing with toothpaste.

Re: Joe's 1992 Legacy SS Documentary
That sucks that the bumper has that center depression for the plate. The pre-facelift (at least the non turbo) has a bracket underneath, so you can move the plate over to the side without leaving an obvious license plate pocket behind. Of course, that also means you can only move it so far before yo...

That's not actually too uncommon for bad solder joints, although, it usually seems to work the other way around.

Re: Xise's 1993 Legacy Turbo
Even a small amount of gloss would help it clean off better. I used the kind of cheap wipe on paint protectant you can get anywhere when I had the flat black hood and trunk on my GL. Restored it from the terrible recurrent faded gray and gave it an almost satin look which made it easier to clean. St...

Looks like it's meant to be there. Not sure what it's doing functionally with that badass roof rack in front of it, but it looks good.

Re: 1986 Subaru GL-10 Leone TURBO
Stock and beat up, my older GLs handled surprisingly well, well enough to annoy BMWs, embarrass GTIs, and surprise the hell out of a C4 Vette. Torsion beam and MacPherson's aren't that bad when there isn't much weight. The biggest problem was the lack of power, so conserving momentum was paramount. ...

Are you fucking kidding me, your cousin owns a Montreal?! I love those cars! Wrote one into my 3rd book and it's one of the few cars I'd have in a small collection. Those V8's are one of the best sounding engines. A muscle car styled by an Italian is damn near perfect to me and I don't give a rat's ...

Mine ran like it was on meth until about 10 miles after the exhaust note started sounding funny. If it ends up being that, might as well do HGs at the same time.

Re: Lost 1/2 qt oil in 300 miles of hwy driving.
Could have an exhaust valve on its way out. Happened to me. Car used an assload of oil for a few days to about a week, no smoke, no leaks. Get on the highway, accelerate up to 85, and I hear an odd exhaust note off the guardrail. 15 miles later, the car starts running kind of rough and I think an ig...

There's nothing special about it. Just get a generic narrow band sensor with the same number of wires. Bosch ones are pretty easy to find at auto parts places.

With over 200k, I transported an EJ22T long block w exhaust in the back a few hundred miles from ME and it was barely noticeable in appearance or handling (not that I was really hooning it with an engine back there). Original springs, but KYB GR-2s.

Re: dramatic city vs freeway mileage difference.. tranny?
I always drive mostly highway, so I don't know if that's normal and mine wasn't a turbo. I averaged 25 driving aggressively. Even the Focus gets hit by a city-highway mix since I can go from a 37 average almost all highway over a tank to as bad as 31 if I hit mostly really bad highway traffic and ci...

I worked on one of the bikes, raged against the fucking weather that ruined my last application of epoxy to the deck of my kayak, hung out with family, and am wondering if I can order a FFR Project 818 without the bodywork and how I'd maybe present to them the idea of building my own design.

Mine are still original. It might not have moved in 6 yrs., but that's still 260k+ miles & 16 yrs. up to when it was parked, speeds up to around 130, New England winters, water crossings up to the hood line, and sideways enough that the e-brake handle is purely cosmetic even at the limit of adju...

You can cut across the bump. Or maybe do a 3-part vent divided by the sides of the bump?

Re: 1986 Subaru GL-10 Leone TURBO
You want something more like an Evo, but I agree that even on the Legacy there's very little room for a shroud, which is why I'd like to do one, but probably won't. I imagine space is even tighter on the Loyale/GL. I suppose you might get part of the effect with those vents—or any vents—to help extr...

Re: 1986 Subaru GL-10 Leone TURBO
More like the rally car. Those BMW vents look more for general heat extraction. You'll be restricted by design for how you'll have to make the vent, but you want it behind the radiator, perhaps with a lip sticking up slightly along the leading edge, but at the rear of the vent you want it to go inwa...

Re: 1986 Subaru GL-10 Leone TURBO
If you can build a shroud for the front vent to the radiator(s), it should help cooling and increase aero efficiency. The area after the leading edge of the hood is a low pressure zone, the front is high pressure. As the speed of the air increases over the vent it helps draw air through the radiator...
