at 55 and up, i'd be inclined to think axle wear/balance might be an issue. or of course iced up wheels? i'm assuming your front end is all tight and tires have been balanced.

driveshaft u-joints?

i'm getting an anoying rumble between 35-45 mph. i've done some checking and found a slightly binding u-joint @ the rear diff yoke. the joints appear to be permanently installed by a special press. anyone find another source besides a salvage yard for the back half of the driveshaft? btw its a 92 5m...

legacy777, if you have the fsm, could you check a location for the delay module? alldata doesn't show a location.only shown in a circuit diagram. btw, my gauge seems to be working better and better. gotta wonder if the level resistor corroded a little during the 1.5 years the parts car sat and is now...

the back is up a little--kind of looks like the same fender to tire clearence as the front. the ride is slightly stiffer too,but not bad.

well, she's done. only one stumble i didn't plan on----the shifters are different. the awd sits closer up to the body to accomodate the driveshaft. the shifter posts are also styled different. now the rear sits a little higher since the donor car was a wagon. the fender to tire clearence is about eq...

not trying to aggrivate, but what signs are exhibited by a coupler failure? front wheel drive only? rear wheel only? 4wd lock? i only have limited experience with 4eat's. that may be where the confusion lies.

this thought only came to mind because i've been told that the main reason that couplers fail was improper tire matches--front to rear. i also thought when the coupler fails, the rear wheels don't give the right amount of assist/or none. this lead me to believe the cars are primarily front wheel dri...

would there be problems with removing the driveshaft between the carrier and the rear diff? would this lessen the summertime wear on my viscious coupler(5mt awd)? help gas mileage?

murphy, you had the same idea i did. i rigged up a switch to drop the power to solenoid c. it worked great, but the 4eat took a dive after a couple real hot suppers and the rest of the car didn't warrant a re-build-----car scrapped except for the engine.
