You can also get test kits for headgasket related problems. I think they test for hydrocarbons in the coolant and ethylene glycol in the oil. You can also look at the oil and see if it's milky. Gorilla snot we call it.

The EJ20K heads flow well to 7600 RPM on a 2.0l engine. On a 2.2l you may need to drop this off a little. If you do some port work to the heads they can be improved a little but they flow pretty well in stock form.

Hm. That makes sense. Does the ECU sample the atmospheric pressure constantly or is it a one time thing? It's experiencing a little hesitation during cruise and I wonder if it's related to bad barometer values. Man I need to figure out the factory triggering scheme.

The easiest thing I found was to just get the 1999 MAF element for the Impreza and adjust its range according to the size housing you put it in. I've done this successfully on Mazdas replacing their crappy VAF meter.

Internet parrots have been blindly repeating the lag story for years. I've done dozens of FMIC kits on a variety of cars and have yet to detect a noticeable amount of lag. In many cases replacing restrictive factory piping and poorly flowing factory IC's give less lag.
