maybe not what you are looking for, but try goolging ''frankenmotor''.
ej25d? block with ej22 heads. i don't know the particulars but it is supposed to deliver good low end torque, i think.

Re: WiFi Signal Strength Only Strong When It Freezes Outside
i don't know for sure this applies, but i was told by a company that sells and install wifi repeaters for large and extra large buildings that the water in your body can block a weak wifi signal.
i wonder if freezing the water in the air would have any affect.?
is your wifi router in your home?

Re: Good replacement for 90-94 Legacy SS 4EAT????
Yes, sir....the '90-91 non-turbo AWD Autos were 4.11 (actually '89-91 to be technically correct). This is one thing I personally have experience with. :-) Thanks, TD TD, what about this post #6: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=919446#post919446 and post 4 seems to support a 4.1...

Re: Good replacement for 90-94 Legacy SS 4EAT????
subaru is a fairly small car company compared the US giants. so they generally use the same trans for all of the cars in the same year, but modified them by using different front and rear diffs and the TCU programming. (this is not always exactly true, especially in change over years, loyal to legac...

Re: Good replacement for 90-94 Legacy SS 4EAT????
No offense but there's some misinformation in this post: '90-91 Legacy Automatics were 4.11 '92-94 and All turbo automatics (yes, including '91) were 3.90 '95+ Legacy (non-Outback/GT/LSi) were 4.11; OB/GT/LSi were 4.44....w/the EJ25. Re: Good replacement for 90-94 Legacy SS 4EAT????
$1200 sounds low for a rebuild to me. if that includes removal and installation it might be the way to go. a 500$ trans is going to cost $300 - $500 to install unless you do it your self. you cannot use a 97 - 98 impreza since it will have a different final drive ratio. your auto trans should have a...

Re: 93 AWD Legacy SW to Forester strut swap advice needed
if you don't need tires right away, consider buying a set of used tires on 15'' subaru wheels. that may change your search and price structure when buying ''larger'' tires.
once you move of of the ''most common sold'' area for tires it seems the price jumps pretty good.

Re: New Subaru owner with a transmission question.
i've done some research and it seems you should be avle to use the following 5 speeds, assuming the clutch type matches up.
impreza
95 - 97 ej18
96 - 98 ej22 (maybe 99 - 01)
legacy 95 - 98 (maybe 99 - 01)
but when you find one you like, double check regardless.

Re: New Subaru owner with a transmission question.
or , regardless of what trans you buy, buy a VLSD (locking rear diff about 100$ - 150$ at http://www.car-part.com) from an '03 era car with the matching ratio and then just smile!!
EDIT: i forgot to ask, what's wrong with your trans?

Re: New Subaru owner with a transmission question.
it reduces the number of compatible transmissions unless I spend extra on the rear differential. not a lot, there are tons of legacys (and imprezas, did i forget to mention the the impreza 5 speed is the same as the legacy, late 90s) out there that have bad engines or been wrecked, or ate up by rus...

Re: awd not kicking in-halp!
the pic below shows the transfer clutch which is in the rear extension housing on the rear of the trans. there are clutch plates inside the drum and and a matching drum on the rear of the trans that slides into the one you see. and the doodad with the green wire is the duty-c solenoid. failure to en...

Re: New Subaru owner with a transmission question.
i guess it is possible that they put a 94 trans and rear diff in your car. if you search car-pat.com for a 94 auto trans you may come across a vendor that lists the trans code number, some do. and that is how i tracked down a lot of auto trans codes for the late 90s. the software on the site does no...

Re: New Subaru owner with a transmission question.
clearly the chart you linked shows the ratio in your trans to be 4.11. but i don't think it is accurate. i can find no info to support this. now i could be wrong, i was earlier in this thread, but i think i'm right. the 95 outback is a second generation legacy. second gen legos had a 3.9 ratio in th...

Re: New Subaru owner with a transmission question.
josh that's for the correction, i hate post bad info. hank, the 95 outback was a 95 legacy with an outback trim package, paint and options. in 94 the non turbos had a 4.11 in the manual and a 3.9 in the auto trans. in 95, at some point (6/95 build date, i think), they reversed the final drive ratios...

Re: New Subaru owner with a transmission question.
the 95 ej22 outback 5 speed should have the same trans gearing (not too familiar with the push vs. pull clutch) and the same final drive ratio, 3.9, as the non outback of that same year. clutch not withstanding, it should also be a match to any legacy L, LS, brighton (not outback, GT, or LSi) 5 spee...

Re: Overheating Problem... anyone? anyone?
well apparently it's not the radiator, cap, t-stat, hoses, heater core or water pump either. that leaves burping, a blockage in the block, or .... what's left.? fans? it is hard to imagine that all of this work has been done and it was never properly filled and burped, but if the same guy did it all...

Re: I wonder what i broke (lost rear drive in 5mt)
on an auto trans, when you have torque bind you can remove the drive shaft to the rear diff and drive around in FWD. i have heard if you try this on a 5 speed you NO wd. i don't understand this and i may be wrong but it has something to do with the viscous center diff being an ''open'' diff i think....

dexcron 2 was replace by dexron 3, autozone probably has their own brand which will work fine. the lucas will probably be ok but may cost more. but it should be equal to or better than dexron 2.

Re: Alcohol As An Alternative Fuel
this was a pretty hot topic back in the 70s, yes i was there, and one thing i do remember learning, it will very difficult to start your car on alcohol only. so a secondary fuel system, gas, was recommended to start the car and then switch to alcohol. but only high end cars had fuel injection in the...

Re: Overheating Problem... anyone? anyone?
well it is possible that the cooling system was not properly ''burped'' after your first overheating / cooling system service / repair. but the 2.2L engine isn't too sensitive to this. park the car with the front up hill if you can or at the least level, not down hill. fill the radiator slowly, let ...

Re: Overheating Problem... anyone? anyone?
it sounds like a bad head gasket. not common in a 2.2L subaru engine, but not unheard of and possible in any high mileage engine. the repair at a shop could run $1000 - $2000, or much less if you do it your self. other options would be to swap in another engine but it just depends on how much. usual...

Re: Motor going back in (quick question)
two things, one there should be a small amount of space in betwen the ''flex plate'' on the engine and the ''torque converter''on the trans. this should allow you to rotate each until you get the bolt holes lined up. there is an access hole on the top of the engine passenger side under the throttle ...

Re: 93 AWD Legacy SW to Forester strut swap advice needed
from what i hear the early legacy top hats are different than the forester or outback top hats. so you will need the legacy tops from your year or similar. and you may not even have top hats on your current set up, i've never seen an air shock. the reason for the saggy butt is that the forester / im...
