Before you buy new control arms, do as ciper suggests and check to see if the holes are there.

I added a rear sway bar to a 93 Impreza AWD. The holes were there, but covered.

You're pushing full boost before the engine warms up?! That's probably not great for its longevity...
The car is running on stock boost control mechanisms. I don't have a controller hooked up.

car runs great before it fully warms up...

...but it seems to pull quite a bit less after it reaches normal operating temp. As I recall, the ECU operates in closed loop mode during warmup, relying on pre-set fuel/timing maps. Can anyone remember if that is the case? Also, my idle is fine & boost peaks at the same value. (~11psi) It just ...

Sorry to hear about the bad luck, Matt.

If you want, I can drop by one night & we can pull out my walbro. When I installed it, I simply swapped the entire assembly (acces cover on down) from another car into mine. I didn't think the plugs were compatible, but I'm not 100% sure.

I just did my grounding mod this afternoon and I'm quite surprised. I ordered it from a vendor on the STi forum (staticX313...I think). It is made up of seven wires (4 guage). The hesitation I was having at various points in the RPM range is gone. The RPMs climb crisply and the car idles smoother. I...

What that means is that if you trick the ECU into thinking there's a lot less air coming in than there really is, it may advance the timing too much. The knock sensor would still be active, but timing control outside the maps is not very sophisticated. Mmmm. Given that our cars seem to run rich, I ...

I love my turbo legacy, but she is a thirsty pig. My wagon gets 15-20 mpg, depending on driving style. It's not stock, but pretty darn close to it.

punk -

Once upon a time, I had a turbo RS. The symptoms you described are similar to what happened to me when the collar that holds the IC (I had an old school V2) to the throttle body popped off.

I'm not using a chip, but I have a high flow pump (walbro). I replaced the following before monkeying around with the boost:

fuel pump (replaced with Walbro unit)
fuel filter
plugs
wires
air filter (K&N)

It's not necessary, but I think it's good to have it there. If you want easy access, you could remove the hard to get to bolts, leaving the easy ones for quick removal.

I would keep it.

EBC woes

Is anyone else running an EBC? I have an older Blitz (single solonoid) that is simple, but reliable. Anyway, I have it set to 10 psi & it feels like the car is pulling timing. I tried settting the gain to the lowest setting (slowing spoolup) and it helped a little, but the car still feels faster...

Cool. Thanks for the pics. That answers my question regarding that mounting bracket for the wastegate actuator.

I've been contemplating doing the TD04L swap and putting together custom piping for the inlet.

Have you done anything to it yet? I have a theory that you could get like 50hp just from an open element and a boost controller. When does the fuel cut kick in? Josh - The STi is bone stock. It's going to stay that way for a while. I'll spend money on more driving lessons before I throw money/go-fa...

Actually, I think that a VF23 would be a pretty good match for the 2.2t at 15psi. Like you mentioned, high end would drop off compared to a larger turbo. However, it would be awesome for a daily driver.

I'm sure the TD04-L swap can (and has) been done. However, the inlet on the compressor side of the wrx turbo doesn't have the elbow like the VF11 (your turbo). The intake piping on the wrx runs under the #1 & #3 intake manifold runners. Hence, no elbow. It's a PITA to deal with, but it is an imp...

Josh - One thing to take into consideration is that compressor effeciency is measured in terms of a pressure ratio (PR) instead of an absolute (PSI) output. So...given that we're at a higher elevation with lower atmospheric pressure (~85% of sea level), the turbo is going to be out of its desirable ...

coolant leak while idling?

Gang - If I let my 93 turbo idle for longer than normal (~10 min), I get a small puddle of coolant (between the size of a quarter and half-dollar) under the passenger side bank of cylinders, towards the front of the engine. My guess is the water pump, but I'm wondering why it only does it when the c...
