I'm having _exactly_ the same problem - sputters on more than about 1/3 throttle, makes a "poof" sound as though backfiring when sputtering, down on power, fine when cold, very lumpy idle, and everything else you describe.

Not throwing a CEL at all, though.

Swapped out the MAF for a thought ...

Remaining questions:

Does the Phase 1 2.5L crank swap require 2.5L rods? (It must, no?)

Does it require different pistons, or can the EJ22t pistons be used?

With the EJ22t sohc heads and pistons nd headgasket, and the 2.5L crank and rods, anyone know the ...

Note that everything up to a 10.9” requires 15” wheels and the 11.4: requires 16” wheels.

I don't think this is quite true. There are 15" wheels that fit the WRX rotors - production class WRXs run rally 15" tires. Anyone know which wheels will fit? Compo TH2? Minilite? etc?

That said, having converted my Evo from RHD and ordering countless front and rear bumper covers from Japan as they get ripped off the rally car, I feel I have some qualification!

Soooo, you might recall that I bought this SS and it turns out to have an open deck EJ22 block but I've measured the valves and the heads appear to be turbo.

I know about the facelift in 1992 - I just didn't know that the signals moved into the markers. Peel off that yellow sticker and jam some fogs in the bumper and you're JDM, no?

Just made a wacky deal: bought a 1993 black/black SS and a 1995 Justy 5MT AWD for absurdly little, Canadian. Both cars were few owner, dealer maintained, and then ditched by the dealer, probably because there was something big enough wrong that the dealer advised these people to get out of the cars ...

Finally pulled and tore down my engine. To my surprise my 91 SS, with pretty much everything intact - including turbo, manifold, etc. has an open deck block. I didn't look for identifying marks before I left the shop in frustration, but what marks should I expect on it?

Any explanation besides ...

Aha! So they are. The fronts were so corroded on the backside that on a casual glance I hadn't seen the writing. 22mm on the front and 16mm on the rear IIRC from 30min ago.

PS how much do you pay your local machinist for turning these?

I have a set of turbo rotors I'd like to have turned. Anyone know minimal thickness and runout specs for turning them?

I've got an EJ22T engine from my old SS (where it had a 4EAT) and a low low mileage 5MT from an SS. Great so far, right? Well I want to put them in my 1990 NA 5MT shell. Cable clutch.

1. Can the cable clutch be made to work on the 5MT SS gearbox? I happen to have a ...

I did read the sticky and know of people telling about big boost on stock internals, but two things lead me to worry. 1. those internals have simply not failed yet, and 2. in the Subaru rally ...

Well, my girlfriend will come to my rallies, support the TV show, etc., but when I take her somewhere in the Legacy, she doesn't understand why I drive a "dad car." So I tell her about closed decks and LSDs and her eyes glaze over and she says "yeah - like I said."

I'm just gonna guess: search "heater blower relay" here for your 80% probable problem.

So, as I understand it, the shorthand is:

headers->uppipe->turbo->downpipe->midpipe->axle back right?

Then, you need a turbo front(?) crossmember to clear the header (or is that the downpipe?)

Then, if you want to bolt a WRX aftermarket system onto a LegacyT you'll have to (a) remove a bracket on ...

Jason - yes - you've got it exactly. Like any rally idiot, I'm willing to buy an Autronic or MoTec for the rally car, but for my street car I'm constrained....
